I have a workstation that the TS times out you get the flashing red X with a
screen in the upper right conner. For some reason when this happens you get
session in use creating a new session, this also locks up Microsoft Outlook
which is running on the server. Both server and TS are 2003.

    Hi,

There is a network issue between your workstation and
your TS. This could be faulty drivers, switch/switch port,
network card, router or router inactivity time out, cabling,
etc. As soon as you eliminate the faulty item your problems
with the red X and creating a new session will disappear.

Please enable TS Keepalives on your TS using Group
    Policy.

Are you able to run a continuous ping from the workstation
to the TS without any lost packets or long delays?

    Thanks.

First thank you for taking time out on this issue. I have looked in to both
options. the second one open a new door.

I checked switch, replaced nic cable on both sides, but when I tried to
replace the network card. it installed without any problems loged on the
network, print, access files ect. But when i tried to go to the internet I
get page can't be displayed. I can't ping anything on the internet, but local
i can. I can't renew local IP it gets to ARP and stops. the issue with TS
started when IE7 was installed, then removed. also windows update pushed a
new TS client on that system when this happened. I think that IE7 locked up
some settings on that work station. because on the old card I can not edit
the firewall. I run port scan and ports i pushed open are still closed.
But what I dont understand is why does the client lock. if I unplug the
network cable TS flashes the connect warning in up right of the screen. times
out then reconnects when I plug the cable back in without any problems.
if this happens on it's own, a new session must be created.

By the way I have the old card back in. the only way everything would run.
    thank you for your help.

    Hi,

Sounds like the problem might be with the client machine,
perhaps the tcp/ip /adapter configuration is corrupted, or
    maybe a third-party security/firewall software has messed
    things up.

See here for instructions on resetting TCP/IP on the
workstation (may or may not help):

How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Unplugging the cable is not the same as having intermittent
network issues. That is why you see different behavior
during your test as it relates to the new session being created.

    Thanks.
