I am looking for a way to route all audio output through a vst host before going to the speakers. Ive found a workable solution, but Its not exactly ideal. I used Virtual Audio Cables. I set one virtual cable as the default sound device for the computer, so that all sound would go through it, including applications like iTunes that do not have an option to select their output device. Then, i can run VAC into my VST Host (Rack Performer) and have that set to output to the speakers. I am trying to find a better solution that does not need to be set up manually every time to computer boots. This setup works, but its cumbersome. Rack Performer does not have an option to automatically load the last scene on startup, so even if i set it to start at boot, i would need to manually open the scene i wanted each time i turn on my computer. It has its own file type for saving scenes (.rps or something) so maybe there is a way to set that file to open on boot, which would automatically open the program. I don't know how to do this though. Thoughts? Also, is there a better way to route audio than VAC that would be configured at boot and wouldn't need 3-4 windows open to operate correctly?

The whole purpose of this setup is for a broadcasting/DJ type control. I want a limiter and some sort of Automatic Gain Control, and most likely equalization, so that everything plays at the same volume and with some continuity to the sound.

If there is a separate standalone program intended for broadcasting or DJ type work that would cover what I am trying to do, I would be interested in that as well. I am wiling to spend some money to make this work. I realize there is probably no free solution, so give me your best suggestions, not just the cheapest or most reasonable.

    Hi and welcome to CHF.

Your profile under the avatar says Windows 98, is it this system you want to work the sound system through?
I wouldn't recommend it as it is now nearly obsolete with little support.
However, the general idea of DJ working using computers is of course not new and yes there is relevant software available depending a lot on what you intend doing.
Other members will have perhaps better idea's, but I reckon that having a talk with someone who operates a karaioke system and find out what software they use would be a good start.
