Hi Mike, from a quick look round, it does seem it might be a drive problem, double check the SATA connectors and if a cable is used on that laptop try changing it.
Also download the Seatools diagnostic to check the drive, you will have to burn an ISO disk to run the test from the CD/DVD drive from here :-

    http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/

If that fails to work I also found Toshiba have their own drive test, it says for Fujitsu made drives, which yours might be, Toshiba checker here :-

The other way to run checks is pull the drive out of the laptop and connect via a USB connection to another computer running those drive check softwares.

No cable is used on this unit. I will try the diagnostics.

Maybe you have some bad disks Mike? You know when that happens we look at dvd first, then dvd drive, hard drive , memory and finally motherboard.

Nev's right that is a partition issue try installing this way deleting and formatting the partition with the Windows disk and if that doesn't work you have another bad drive:

Yes, it is another bad HDD, I didn't bother to do any tests, I simply tried one of my HDD's and it worked fine.
