Oh dod, how horrible this is for so many and I too am worried about each of you!!

Batteries, water, canned food, food for our furry friends - so much to think about even before the storm/flooding hits ... and I hope so hard that each of you and all those you love will be safe!

I've just been watching the news here in the UK, same as Ken. Wow!!...it's not even hit the coast properly yet, and I've never seen waves like that.

Keep yourselves safe folks...thinking of you all.

Still here. Mokey is out buying extra candles. I hope she remembers to lock the car and turn off the headlights.

Interesting sidebar: The HMS Bounty built for the old Brando Movie has gone down off Cape Hatteras. While the Coast Guard has rescued most there are still 2 missing. Interesting but far from funny.

The winds are picking up now and not a squirrel to be seen. I think they are all in their little dens watching the news on TV.

They are all over here chasing our native red ones away :)

I get lots of greys in my garden - I quite like them.

My sister (2 1/2 miles from me) lost power at 4:20. Uh,oh..... No one in Juniper Hill, Stonybrooke or Appletree has electric. Unfortunately, Appletree
is less than 1/4 mile from my house. PECO power outage update states that due to high gusts of wind approximately 370,000 customers are currently
    without power.

It has always surprised me that in most pictures I see of just about anywhere outside and even inside city centres in the USA, there are power lines strung from poles just about everywhere. Here in the UK, the only lines above ground are the national grid high voltage distribution stuff, everything else is under the ground and out of the way of storms. Even medium high tension, up to 11,000 volt stuff is underground, yet we don't get anything like the level of storms that the USA gets.
It isn't surprising then that the power goes once high winds hit an area in the USA.
It is only out in the country where long distances are involved that power lines are above ground here..
I can only wish you all the best and the damage is at worst minimal and hopefully none at all for you folk over there.

    Nev.

I got lucky. Everything working for now except no cell reception. I know Cindy is without power and I am not all that sure this will last. Power outages all around me. The devastation to the Jersey Shore is horrible. (Please don't judge the Jersey Shore by Snookie and her friends. It is [hopefully still is or will be] a natural wonder.)

$4.99 actually. I am fine but I am the only one in my family with any power. I even have internet (obviously) but telephone service is sporadic at best. As I noted I heard from Cindy (text message) and she has no power at all. I have no idea how long this will last but it can be anything from hours to weeks.

Glad to hear you have the power, must be horrible for those without as according to the news temperatures dropped after or during the storm.

Glad to hear everyone appears OK so far, barring some major annoyances.

My mom lives on the coast of Masschusetts...same house I grew up in. Named after a Welsh city...they must have settled it. Anyway, her power was just restored, but the town is on the ocean. Thankfully her house made it OK, but some of my friends had waves lapping at their houses. Not as bad as Jersey, but the storm surge was still quite impressive. I was supposed to be flying into LGA airport in NYC at 9AM on monday morning...thankfully the people interviewing me postponed it. I would've been stuck as LGA was under a few feet of water for my flight out.

On a side note, we used to have a haunted house on HMS Bounty every Halloween in the mid 90s to raise money for my high school theatre company. Kind of brings back memories of the 3 years I participated.

While the loss of this ship and the loss of life is sad indeed, one must wonder what lunacy caused it to be on the open ocean in a storm that was the subject of conversation for days and days prior to the sinking. Accordingly I am issueing an administrative order that there be no further discussion of this ship. Effective immediately we are all to remain mute on the Bounty.

Don't know how accurate this is but our news here said that as of this morning there was still "7 million people without power" in the States!

How I hope each of you are safe and the storm is ending plus the government steps up quickly to help with repairs and loses.
