Alright, so my Mom has a COMPAQ laptop that she uses for her normal stuff, checking email, weather, solitaire, the little things. But my nephew and nieces often come over and use it.

Well, she tried to sign herself in (Her account is password protected) and what'll happen is she'll type it correctly, it'll say Welcome, and then a few seconds later say "The RPC Server is unavailable", shortly after it will actually reboot her system and bring her back to the sign in stage.

Shes running Windows 7 Home Premium. Does anyone know a fix for this problem?

Click on the Start Orb and type Serv into the search box. Click on Services in the resulting search list. Find the RPC Endpoint Mapper (see attachment).
If the Startup Type is not Automatic, double click on the entry and change it to Automatic. If the Startup Type is Automatic but the Status is not
started, right click and select start.

Continually press F8 after the splash screen on a Compaq to get into safe mode and do it from there
If you still cant get in let us know, might be worth running a scan of whatever security software you use while in safe mode to see if it detects anything
