I have it installed and wanted a Windows start menu.
I don't think that defeats the purpose.
Thanks Rob for all the tips above.
Too early to give a qualified opinion.
Dislike the watermark on the Desktop.
    Installed off ISO very smoothly.
Don't know if any issues say installing to a VMWorkstation.
Good thing it is designed to run on many devices.

Here is the problem I have with it. It seems to me that Microsoft is using Windows8 as a means to compete in the growing tablet market. Now I have played with a few iPads and admit that they are lots of fun and, under the right circumstances, perfect for some serious business applications because of its portability. I have not done the same with an Android based tablet.

I think I get the strategy of having an OS that is in wide use on PCs and laptops where the familiarity will drive users to go straight to a W8 tablet. That however is no justification for selling a bill of goods about how such a system benefits the PC user.

Windows 7 is a great OS and getting better. My only hope for W8 is that it may eventually help to drive down the cost of tablets because of M$s record of making its systems available to all manufacturers.

If I see any good feedback that say W8 is a bit or a lot better than W7, I might try a release candidate myself, but although still early, as yet I see no great improvements that would be relevant to me and my W7 set up. However, as and when I finally get round to building my own super system, who knows? Windows 10 might well be around to install on it by then. :snckr:

I found this rather interesting review linked to on another forum, but I tend to agree with this guy, as a tablet or portable OS fine, but I don't want this messing about installed on a desktop.

The more info I get about 8 the more I think I'll stay with 7, and the more I hope Google has, is or planning a PC version of Android but then the problem is it would have to run windows software, without infringing M$ patents.

I am finding W8 has a lot of positives about it even in these early stages.
By the time the final release is available I think it will be better accepted.
They say there are over 100 enhancements.
I think it will be more user friendly even for Desktops eventually.
