I'd like to create a website to share, between our daughter and her attendants and myself only, in order to make planning a wedding easier for all of us - something perhaps with a sign-in for 'invited' people only to view.

(Is this called a 'shared' website, I wonder?)

I don't know the terminology for any of this but I'd like to set it up so we can add photos, music choices, etc and have posts (similar to here) where one can nix choices or simply make comments or upload their own suggestions via photos etc.

And, if at all possible, would like to be able to create my own graphics for 'homepage'.

Don't know the terminology of what I'm hoping to do ... nor how one even starts to create such a thing. (Used Google to look around but how on earth does one know if a site willing to give 'free' web space is reputable or not - and I don't even know if what they are offering is what I'm actually after - hence, the need to understand at least the terminology).

I'd be very grateful for suggestions on how one even starts to do something like this.

    Thanks so much!

Check out Yahoo groups. You can create your own group and invite your friends. If anyone posts an email to the group, everyone I. The group receives the email. This allows everyone to stay informed.

The web feature allows for files and photos to be uploaded. Access to the web features does require that you have a Yahoo account. Th account is free.

Another option is Google docs. It allows you to share / collaborate documents.

The Yahoo may allow you to create your own intro page. I'm not sure.

This very, very odd as I know I posted here but return and hmmm. Oh well, maybe I'm loosing my mind - grin (but my 'tags' for the post are still showing).

Anyway ... I know that nearly everyone loves Facebook but I simply can't get the hang of it, unfortunately, BeeCeeBee - there's something about the format itself, I think.

And thanks so much for your suggestion regarding starting a Yahoo Group, Dragnet.

I zipped over there and actually managed to not only open a restricted group - wahooo! But drat. There isn't any way to configure it so it resembles our site here ... e.g. separate subject headings and with applicable posts and photos, etc under each heading - but I really do thank you for trying to help me, Dragnet.

What is a website similar to this called, please?

Oh dod, how I hate not knowing stuff but is the below type of thing what I'm after, I wonder?

    http://www.best-free-web-hosting.info/free_web_hosting_no_ads.php

And if so, how does one know ahead of time if it's similar to our site here where one can find things easily under headings, etc?

I have to go out soon, so don't have time to investigate further right now. It appears that Google may be the answer to your query Mara. (It is free) Check out the link below...

I might well open a private website myself. So I could help with any questions you may have... But that may not be today...

I have the account all set up ... manage to find the little area where one changes time zones for site, etc but ...

Although I've found the page that explains how to add privacy settings in the administrator section ...

... I can't find find the access to the "More Actions drop-down menu" section it's talking about.

There is nothing showing on the actual webpage I created that appears to link to 'admin' and on the other page where I could change time zones, there's no option for privacy.

Am sure I'm just missing something simple but would really appreciate help.

    Thanks again.

    Thanks again, Frank.

Shall look at the links the moment I get a chance tonight ... am finding my lack of terminology a real hindrance - such as I think I'm looking for how to add sections (?) so really appreciate the links.

(Gosh, how much easier it would be if, on the 'home page' there was a direct link for Admins to change things - grin).

Playing at your new Google website has been super for me, Frank - and thank you ever so much!

Wondering what the terminology is when one is trying to work with photo on a website, please.

For instance, under each heading on the left side of homepage, after clicking on each, would like up upload photos ... but each time I do, I simply get a text 'link' that one must click on to few photo.

Driving myself a tad nuts trying to figure out how the photos uploading show within the post itself here but can't get them to do the same in our Google personal websites.
