    Hi

We presently have a Citrix farm we are upgrading and have 160 terminal
server user licenses on a windows 2000 server.

We are upgrading citrix on a 2003 server so my question is can the Windows
2000 licensing server still issue connections for 2003?, or will we have to
install a windows 2003 licensing server and then upgrade/migrate the 160
licenses from the old citrix farm.

I have tried to dig around on this but as you can imagine my head is getting
    very sore!.

Any help would be really appreciated.

    Many thanks
    Julian

  2. Hi Jules,

Windows Server 2000 license server can't issue licenses to Windows Server
    2003 TS.
Reason being: For accessing Windows Server 2003 TS, you need to have a
Windows Server 2003 or higher TS CAL. And that you can install only on
Windows Server 2003 or higher license server.

So, the solution is that you either install a Windows Server 2003 license
server and migrate the existing Windows Server 2000 TS CALs on it or you can
upgrade the Windows Server 2000 license server to Windows Server 2003. If
you upgrade your license server, your existing TS CALs will *not* be deleted
    from the license server.

For migrating the TS CALs to Windows Server 2003 license server, you can
follow the steps mentioned in the post:

    Hope that helps!
    Thanks

We recently had the same scenario. We replaced out W2K Citrix PS4 farm
with W2K3 Citrix XenApp 4.5 farm. I ended up installing a new TS3
license server on an existing utility server (already running W2K3). I
left the existing TS2K server running just in case. I didn't upgrade the
existing server since it was on a DC and I wanted the LS off of it.

If the server you are running the W2K LS on meets the requirements, I'd
upgrade it. This way, your W2K TS licenses remain in place and you can
add the W2K3 licenses, all without having to call the Clearing House...
