Terminal Server Licensing Issue

Recently had a problem with Terminal Server (2003 Standard SP2). The server
stopped issuing the licenses (per user) and started issuing temporary
licenses. I eventually reinstalled TS Licensing on the server and
reactivates/ re-installed the licenses.

From the user end everything is working. But I see 5 users logged in right
now and the Status under the licenses is "Not Applicable" There are no
temporary licenses being issued.

I saw a hot fix but it was for a earlier version and thus not applicable.

Per User licenses are never issued in 2003, that's why you see the
N/A. So all seems to work now.
When it started to issued temporary licenses, the TS must have been
changed to Per Device licnesing mode, since the only temporary
licneses that exist are temporary Per Device licenses.

Hi SJMP,

For Per User licensing, there is no concept of temporary and permanent
licenses.
In Per User case, client only gets the permanent license on the first
connection.

And For Windows Server 2003, what you are getting is the expected behavior
as the Per User CALs are not tracked in Windows Server 2003. So, they show
as 'Not Applicable'.

Please make sure of the following things before that:
- Check that your TS Licensing Mode is set to 'Per User'.
- Check that you have the same or more number of licenses than the number of
users connecting. You need to be compliant with EULA to use Per User
licensing.

If these two things are fine, you are good to go.
