So, last night I went to unplug my laptop to 'take it to bed' with me, however i forgot the battery wasn't in and evidently lost all power supply to the laptop. This inst the first time this has happened.

However, I go to turn it on, and when it all loads, i'm greeted with a a default wallpaper and find that all my documents and files have gone. I thought this was weird because I still had all my programs installed such as games, steam and other bits and bobs.
I had a search around and found all my files under network, but also under local disk. So, I thought okay my stuff hasn't actually gone, some thing weird has gone down. Its like its been restored to factory settings, except it hasn't, now it feels like its running on a very old and slow version of windows or something.

I found a button with the 'getting started' part of the computer. It allows me to transfer files from another computer, but it instantly rejects me the option because I am using a 'Temporary profile'

I don't know whats gone on, and if anyone can help me restore it to the way it used to be, that would really great

    Thanks

    Steve

    Hi Steve.
Check that your files and folders are not hidden all of a sudden for some reason.

Type "Folder Options" in the search box
    Click on "folder options"
    Click on"View".
Set the Radio button to "Show Hidden Files, Folders and Drives"
    Click "Apply" then "OK."
    Reboot

    Do this check first.
