My sattelite internet provider says that win7 is causing a slowdown and pointed to the number of tcp and udps open(30 to 40 each). They said that something is running in the background and eating up my internet speed.I find this hard to believe, but I thought I would ask.My speed tests are reading about 1/10th dial-up speed and it took 4 hours to download avg internet securitied. Thanks in advance

If the speed is not what it should be then its normally down to the hardware.

Are you using a switch of any kind on a router?

Are you connecting wirelessly? If so have you tried with an Ethernet cable to see if thats the problem, with an Ethernet the connection should run at full speed

I am running through a router by cable , but I disconected the router and ran it direct with the same result. This has workd well for a year ,but now they are telling me that there should be only 10tcps and 10udp so therefore some win7 program in the background is eating up my speed. This prblem is just in the last two weeks and nothing has changed.I checked everything while on the phone with a tech and this was the answer after three very long calls.

Do you have more than one ethernet on the back of the MOBO ?

If you look in device manager under network connections, are there any yellow exclamations?

I very much doubt that its the TCP/UDP settings

There is only one ethernet on the board, but I tried a plug in one, same thing. There are no cautions there.I'm beginning to think it's an excuse from the sattelite provider as it does the same on my XP dou core to.

The simple answer is to downloadtcip view run it and it will show you whats open and how many for that many connections it would have to be P2P
