    In early 2003, I had what I still consider to be my greatest meeting ever, with two key figures from the development of Windows NT, Mark Lucovsky and David Thompson. Lucovsky, of course, was one of NT’s key architects, and he joined Microsoft along with Dave Cutler and the original wave of ex-Digital employees. Thompson led Microsoft’s LAN Manager project before joining the NT team and taking over the development of NT's networking subsystem. This is their story.
