We run a large ASP service we have been using Terminal Servers for years
without many issues. We have turned off idle or inactivity settings, all idle
logoff settings, on the server for our clients because of complaints.

Recently I have noticed that some of our users were getting logged of for
inactivity, however only if the RDP session was minimized. The client gets no
message or warning the RDP connection simply disappears off the users
taskbar. On the terminal server it shows the user as disconnected. When the
user logs back in the session resumes. i have double checked the domain
policy as well as the terminal server idle session limit and can find nothing
changed. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

You can try playing with the TCP stack to improve RDP performance.

  3. What is the Windows version of Terminal Services are you running?
Also What are the client OS are you using?
Can you please confirm is the session gets logged off or disconnected when
    RDP session is minimized?

    Thanks
