    hi Techputer Gang

Query 1) I like to know if I should disable the Spybot Resident protection if I am running Eset 4 NOD32 that already has firewall, real-time file system protection & antivirus & antispyware protection. Currently I have disabled it's Resident protection & Use Resident in IE protection.

Query 2) This is abt Thunderbird ver 2.0.0.14 (i think). After I had installed Eset 4 NOD32 (ver 4.0.417.0), it causes Thunderbird not to run. I roughly know it is to do with Email client protection under POP3, POP3S, under Compatibility setup which I had set to Maximum compatibility, as I was fiddling with it to get Thunderbird working. Thunderbird works only intermittenly and it will run once after boot. When Thunderbird does not work, I will goto Task Manager to End Process.
**If anyone is familar with Thunderbird & Eset 4, and have any ideas what I should do please suggest. I know the prob is not a virus as I had done scans already. Currently I am thinking in the lines of 'trash' Thunderbird & revert back to an Outlook user.

    Thanx. --DrZg--

    Hi DZ!!
I do not use NOD32 but know it is a good suite. From what I am told as well as some experience using it, spybot is far more limited by way of resident protection than Superanitspyware (SAS) Unlike an antivirus, however, there should be no problem running it alongside the ESET suite.

What was the problem with Thunderbird and how did you get it resolved?
It may help another member to know what you did.

    hi BCB

Thanx for the suggestion with Sybot & Eset4.

    :D Thunderbird & ESET4.
I did some Googling & found out that Eset4 ver4.0.417.0 has issues with Thunderbird.
Solution: Install Eset4 ver4.0.437.0 & Thunderbird will work fine.

Just for my curiosity, Is SAS ok to run together with Eset?

The reason I asked is Match had suggested in my previous thread that I do not have two firewalls running and two resident monitoring running. I hope I understood what Match advised.

    ;) cheers

Ok I don't see Match's specific advice but here are some general rules to follow:

Use only one realtime antivirus program at a time. If you are running ESET NOD32 for example do not run anything like avast, avira, any Norton or McAfee AVs at the same time. The will cause a conflict and you will be getting a lot of false readings.

You can use more than one antispyware at a time so SUPERantispyware can run alongside NOD32.

Select and use only one firewall.
