    Hey guys, first post on this website as I have no where else to turn;
    I use Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit. Recently I bought the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card, mainly because of the optical output slots that it came with, but now all I want to do is connect my headphones to them so I can play immersive games in peace. However, it won't even detect my headphones on the control panel, or on the list of devices in the sound menu, nothing comes through them. I always connected my headphones/earphones into the front audio jacks on the front of my tower, but now nothing happens, the sound continues to play out my speakers. The only thing that did work is the mic, which I used on skype, but I don't care about talk-back, only the sound through the headphones. I've installed all the necessary drivers, messed with the settings that come with this stupidly annoying sound card, and still come out with nothing. I'm also planning to buy a rather expensive pair of headphones later on, and I would like my pc to be able to recognize them when I plug them in.

    My previous sound card was Realtek HD, and that worked fine as it immediately recognized what ever I placed into the front jacks and I had no problems with it, but because of the constant popping and static, I bought this one. I've heard the Sound Blaster series has had a notorious reputation for being a pain in the arse, but, it's too late for that.

    Hi. Welcome to Computer Help Forums.
    I bought one of those cards and gave up trying to configure it.
    I took it out of my computer in disgust.
    Wait till another Techy posts if they have had experience with one of these cards.
    Failing that you may be better off posting on the Sound Blaster Forum.

    Thanks for the quick reply! Hah, I'm not surprised someone else has had trouble with this card, I'm thinking of just sending it back to be honest. Which sound card do you use?

    Hi and a welcome from me too.
    Which card out of the series do you have as there are several different types mainly based on the simpler PCI only, or the more complex PCIe.

    Is it similar to this at the top of the page in this link:-

    Or similar to this:-

    If different to those above can you please link to it or post a photo.

    I am also wondering as I am a little confused as to where you are plugging the headphones into, as you mentioned the front jacks several times.
    Installing the card will have disabled those jacks as they are part of the original Realtek on board system. The only active ones should be on the card itself as far as I know.

    I actually rang the distributor this morning and he informed me that I didn't plug the audio adapter that runs behind the two jacks on the tower into my new sound card hah, it was still plugged into my motherboard. I've uninstalled it the moment as they are currently checking if they sell extension cords because when I tried to reach it around it was about 3 inches away (my wires were placed underneath metal sheets for some reason, probably to keep them all in one place). That's probably the solution to my problem too, thanks Nev, DTSM :)

    Also the one I have is this one http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/soundcards/30sb104200000.html
