My good Sony LCD monitor circa 2001 has gone silly a few times lately. I re-start it and its right again.
Not sure if this is a sign of old age and imminent failure, or merely a software glitch in the graphics drivers.
The color goes nuts and looks like one color took over, kind of. :bnghd:

Will watch how it acts when used with other computers via the KVM switch.
Meantime, will uninstall the drivers for the video card and get fresh ones from www.SlimDrivers.com .

    HI, JD,
do see how it goes on a different computer, also whether updating drivers does any good first. Get back to us if no change though as there just may be other things to try too, before consigning it to the scrap heap. It has done OK though to get to 12 years old with no problems till now.

Ain't misbehaving on the two laptops today, so uninstalled and let Windows re-load on next boot.
NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Force 405 is what installed. My Slimdrivers did not see any updates, so there it stands. Time will tell. Thanks for the input!

    Hi JD.
You are better off going to Nvidia for your Graphic updates and not using third party update advisors.

Will do that. TY. The drivers came from Windows during the re-boot, of course. I guess Windows qualifies as a third party.

Had to install Java to run the scan from nVidia. Scan said my nVidia version from Windows was current. Some other hassles from nVidia, too, so will not be visiting them again.
Have uninstalled Java now and will run my cadre of cleaning utilities.
I am appreciative of your input, though! Always happy to learn new stuff.

I do hope the so called clean up stuff is not so called registry cleaners, add to that most other so called clean up tools don't do any different than Windows own disk clean up.
regarding registry cleaners, do have a read of these two articles. on these two links.

    http://www.whatthetech.com/2007/11/25/do-i-need-a-registry-cleaner/

    http://www.edbott.com/weblog/2005/04/why-i-dont-use-registry-cleaners/

In both cases very well known computer experts agree there is no need at all to use registry cleaners, add to that they can actually damage the registry when allowed to do their own thing.

    I agree with Nev.
If you have a Nvidia Graphics card then get any updates from Nvidia.
If you have problems then you are not feeding the correct information in.
Java is OK if installed properly. I have had it on 5 computers for years.
All the cleanup programs are not recommended by the experts.
With respect you are going to continue to have issues unless you listen to ones that know.
