If the noise is coming from a fan, it is likely the bearing - generally sleeved or equivalent. These bearings have a relatively short life, as compared to powdered or oilite (sintered bronze) bearings. Ball bearings would be expected to have the longest life, but availability may be minimal.

Ok I installed the new Java and I tinkered with the fan a little and it makes significantly less noise. It seems that when i pushed down on it it made less noise. Right now half of the noise is just the metal on the cumputer vibrating. Maybe there is a loose screw somewhere....

Also i just realized i had been ignoring this message on the start up screen that said "Warning!! The system is now in safe mode" and then something about re-setting my CPU...

Also the most I am ever planning on doing with this computer is playing Maplestory or something. Is that possible? http://maplestory.nexon.net/Support/Downloads.aspx

I'll leave that to one of the other staff that is more experienced in Gaming to address.

As we no longer require OTL, it can be removed:

    • Please double-click OTL to run it.
    • You should see a CleanUp! button, press that button,

    • This will cleanup an assortment of tools used during malware removal, plus itself

    Note:
    MBAM will not be removed

    Ok. DONE.

    Thanks a bunch!

Any idea what that message means on start up?

    I'm confused by this.
The reports you posted say the system was running in normal mode.
Plus, OTL created a restore point..... it can only create a restore point when run in normal mode.
How long has this message been coming up?
Did you reboot into Safe mode at some time?
If so, what method did you use?.... did you use the 'Msconfig' method? if so did you reset it to boot into normal mode afterwards.

Looking back over the thread, you said that you were having browser problems.... but never actually said what they were.
Can you give us a much better explanation of things.

    Thanks

It has been displaying that message ever since the first time my computer got messed up and possibly even before. My friend just tells me to ignore it...

The browser problems, it seems, were mainly with chrome, and firefox seems to be working fine, but I haven't really done anything with it.

Chrome just would never save any of my personal preferences and every time I closed it, upon launching it again, it would say "Chrome was closed incorrectly. Would you like to restore the last session?"

I uninstalled it and am planning to reinstall pretty soon.

    UPDATE:

So my computer just reminded me of the original reason I thought it was malware. It shuts off randomly. >.<

Also my fan started making a little more noise, so I'll probably just replace it.

The message at start up was:

"Warning!! System is in safe mode
Please re-setting the CPU frequency in CMOS settings"

to the best of my memory.

Could it be that I put my fan back on backwards, and it is not doing it's job properly, so my computer is overheating?

It's possible that this is what may have happened. Reverse it and take note of your CPU temperature every 5 mins or so.

Does the CPU fan look to be spinning at the normal RPM?

The CPU fan should blow air away from the heatsink to pull off excess heat.

Also set your BIOS to default.

    ^ ?

Ok I found out why my computer was shutting down. Whatever that structure was that the fan is sitting on top of got really hot. It's a sort of metal boxy thing filled with metal plates.

I checked my fan and it was sitting the same way it was before I tinkered with it, but I don't think it is possible that it has been on backwards this whole time.

Could it be the dust between the plates, or the fact that my computer sit close to the wall? (about 4 inches away)

EDIT: I think this is my problem: http://www.computing.net/answers/hardware/overheating-and-fan-sound-issue/62217.html

From what you are describing it appears that the fan you are referring to is part of the heatsink assembly designed to remove hot air away from the CPU. Is that the only fan in the case? You may have said before but what is the make and model of the machine?

One of the first things I would do is get a can of compressed air from a computer or photo shop. (any of the biggies like Staples, Best Buy and ever Walmart should have it) Use short bursts around the fan and the heat sink fins as well as any other areas where dust may accumulate. Make certain that all the vent slots in the case are clear.

If the problem is overheating and it appears that it is, it may also be a result of a leakage between the CPU and the heatsink. Fixing this would require the removal of the heatsink and fan assembly and the removal of any old thermal paste. It hen must be replaced by a small amount of fresh heatsink paste and then reseating the assembly. (Small amount means about the size of a grain of rice.)

First please make certain you reply to the questions asked and give the clean out instructions a try.

I think my fan is running slower than it should be, and i don't have a can of compressed air right now, so I decided to just salvage a fan from a different computer.

The one my computer has is a 12V .23A one (Product Number D70BH-12B)

The one I want to put on is a 12V .24A one (http://www.kpsurplus.com/1/cooler-master-afb0712mb-dc-brushless-fan-12v-24a.html)

It is not the only fan in the case. The machine is a PowerSpec 5500

I believe that the Power Spec is the private brand of Micro Center which gives out limited information.

It would appear that (assuming they both fit physically) the .23 and .24 relate to Amps. I really don't know if using one with a slightly higher amperage will make a difference or cause a problem. I am guessing that it has more to do with the manufacturer but I honestly don't know.

We are, however, going from pillar to post a bit here. Why have you singled out this particular fan as the probable culprit? Are you running high CPU temps? Running speccy as suggested by DSTM above would give us a better idea.

If the heatsink paste has grown tired then replacing your fan with another similar fan will not help much. Even the slightest leak between the CPU and the heatsink can cause serious overheating problems with the CPU.

If it helps - you are not going to cause any damage / see any difference in r/m using a fan that draws 1/100 Amp more than the other.

    It does help.

Right now I just put a regular fan next to the computer and the CPU temp is fine, so i think it was just the fact that my computer fan wasn't working well.
