Hi Starbuck, I am positive I posted this but don't know why it didn't appear. Never mind, I did it again.

Re the connection problem, I just this minute wrote to Toshiba as I found their forum on my notebook - this is what I said.

I have a Notebook Z830 and for quite some time it has been dropping out of a night time (that's when I use it, in the loungeroom). I today checked the settings with my desktop - which read

    Network Home Network
    Access type Internet
    HomeGroup Joined
    Connections Local Area Connection

    On the Notebook they read
    Network Belkin92c
    Access type Internet
    Connection /wireless Network connection (belkin92c)
    ------
Maybe I havent set it up right?

I took on board all your other comments about Ghostery, WOT etc, and appreciate them. Will re-read them when I get a "pass" mark for OTL lol

Many thanks for your help and patience.

If the Desktop is connected via ethernet cable, the settings will look slightly different.
The settings you have look ok to me.

Yes, the Otl fix ran as it should.
Files were removed and some settings were reset.

If 2 systems are connecting fine, then i would say that the problem is the Notebook wifi connection.
Can you plug the ethernet cable into the Notebook and try the connection then.
When connecting by ethernet you won't need to add any password for the internet.... it'll connect automatically.

I am glad the Otl fix was OK.

I am a bit clueless with wifi and ethernet. I presume you mean the cable from the Modem to my desktop computer, you want me to unplug the cable in the hard drive and put it in my notebook (to try out?)

I don't normally use the notebook in the same room. I presume I am just testing it?

Is there a better way of running it - like wireless instead of ethernet?

    Yes that's right.
An ethernet connection is what we call ' a hard wired' connection.
Put this cable into the netbook and try the connection.
If the netbook connects ok and runs ok, with a better internet response...... then the problem is the wifi adapter.

I tried the notebook with cable directly from the modem - for about half an hour - had no problems.
So if it is the wifi adaptor - what do I do next?

    Hi Judy,

In all honesty i think it would be best.
This really isn't within my field and others will have more knowledge of this than i have.
I suggest you post a thread here:
    http://computerhelpforums.net/forums/networking.67/

Explain that the Netbook has problems connecting through wifi, but is fine connecting through an ethernet cable.
