Hey all. So What happens is, when I make a phone call via skype, I am able to do 1 call. Then skype freezes and I am unable to make anymore. Then, I am unable to open like "sound" or "play back devices" after skype freezes. Even if I "quit skype" or close it in the "processes" , I am still unable to open the sound or play back devices until I restart the computer. Sometimes after I quit skype, I can get to the dial pad to make a call, but IF it connects, then it freezes and I am unable to hang up. To fix the freezing skype, or the sound menu from not opening, I need to do a reboot. Then it works fine until I try and make a call again...

    I have tried,
    *re-installing skype
*downloading an old verison of skype
    *system restore
*checking for updates on video card
*check for corrupt windows 7 files ( not sure if I did it 100% correctly)

I have dealt with skype tech support for about 6 hours today and they are NO help!

I havent had any issues until today. I haven't downloaded anything.

I did notice at one point, I unplugged my wireless headphones (logitech g930's) and all of a sudden, skype unfrozen, and everything was working perfectly. That lasted a short time and if skype freezes if they are plugged in, then it doesn't fix it if I unplug it. I also tried unplugging every single USB wire while skype was frozen and it didnt fix it.

The only thing I did today was add a 3rd HDMI wire to my computer for a 3rd monitor. Which I used to have anyway. But when I plugged it in, it changed all my display settings and I needed to fix everything.. Such as, Put the monitors in order, change the screen res ( for some reason it made all my screens go to 640x480)

I tried to disconnected that 3rd HDMI to see if that fixed the issue and it did not.

I honestly don't think its a skype issue. I feel like its something is causing skype to freeze and hang it up, then causing other things like "sound" from opening.

Its a win 7 computer. 64bit AMD FX8350, NVIDIA Geforce GTX 660, 1TB HDD for storage, and 240GB SSD for which windows is installed on

I hope this is enough info and I hope I didn't type too much!

Thank you in advance for your help.

Also, when skype freezes, it causes my audio to quit working as well. Also, if I remove a USB and try and plug it back in, its dead. It wont work until I restart. The only way to can recreate this problem is by calling someone on skype. Other then that, computer works perfectly.

I also did a CCleaner run and It said that It was unable to find C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe and said it got left behind when uninstalling?

But I have reinstalled skype a few times? I know that the skype tech support went into my reg files and deleted that file name earlier today.. But I was having these issues before it was deleted.

So how many times have we said do not use registry cleaners?

Said my peace. It may be a memory issue. Can you swap out memory?

Remove the sound card driver, then install it again from the manufacturers site.

If that doesn't work, disconnect your headphones and mic USB thingy, then try a cheap set of headphones / mic from the a dollar store. That will rule out a headphone / mic electrical issue.

Why try Google Hangouts if all your friends are on Skype. Just asking.

Because Skype and Facebook aren't "cool" anymore.

Also, it could be a good clue to narrow down the problem.

You could see if the same happens using the web based version of Skype.
