Skype default log in name changes itself

Hi, On my Skype there are 4 log in names, two are mines and 2 are ones friends have used in the past when using skype on my computer.

I only use one of the log in names and usually it is always the default one.

Recently however, I opened skype and kept putting in my password but it kept saying it was wrong, after 5 minutes I realized that the username that automatically appeared was my old one which I never use (it is quite similar to my current one). This has never happened before. How could this have happened? I assumed that the log in name that appears would be the one I last used to log on? This doesn't seem to be the case though. Was this just random? Weird as it has never happened in the past. I restarted my computer and the same username was the 'default' one, I then restarted the computer again and this time the 'default' username was the one that is normally always there.

Today, the same thing happened, but with one of the other log in names. It has been years since that as used to log in so I dunno why it would show up as the default one.

what operating system do you have?
im assuming that you are in windows 7 , if you are the way to delete the other username of friends that used the pc before is this way

go to start and press run, in the runbox type %appdata% and press enter then locate the folder skype, open the folder you will see all the names that have loged in to that pc delete the folder of the names you like to remove and your done.
keep in mind that ones you delete the names of the people that logged on your pc, there profile will be gone, if they had one, so just leve your skype name do not delete that good luck

ok, thanks for explaining how to delete the names. However, is there any reason why the others would sometimes show up as the 'default' name? For the last few years I've only used the one sign in name, and that has always been the one to appear already filled in.

 

yes skype will randomly picks a folder if there if more then one folder, to try to accommodate the user, like is asking what user is login in
that's my best guess ,keep in mind that whatever person logged in your skype, the computer is assuming that it's you with a different nickname, the reason being of the person was able to create or log in and a different account the PC at this point things that it's the administrator ,hope that answers your question, and please let us know how everything goes thanks.

What is happening is your own Skype log in cookies are being deleted when you shut down your computer.
When you boot again it chooses another Skype account to log into.

 

no once you remove the other names, you have nothing to worry about, they will be gone forever you my need restart of skype or a reboot whichever works.

 

ok, thanks, however I have only noticed this recently. For years the account I have always logged in with has been the 'default' one, so I just have to put in the password as the username is already there.

A few weeks ago the name was different, and today again it happened. I am just wondering if there is anything I should be concerned about as this never used to happen.

 

He may not want to do that to the other users accounts.

 

The other users do not use skype on this computer They did at one point a few years ago but their names are still on the drop down list. Normally the default one is the account I regularly sign in with but as Ive said, a few times now one of the others has shown up as the default. Is it anything to worry about. I have ran virus/malware scan and nothing coming up.

Could this just be random?

 

In that case delete their accounts.

 

solquiff have you followed the instruction above that I have posted if you did ,you should not see any other names only your skype name

 

Yes, I have now done it thanks, but my original question is as to why all of a sudden one of the other names would appear as the 'default name'. could it have been someone trying to login to one of the other accounts using my computer (hacker), and then that stayed as the default one?

No problem, it is just a bit weird, thats all and thought I was being hacked or something.
