Singe file to update KB951847 ( KB959209)?

Discussion in 'Windows Home Server' started by Scott Townsend, Apr 1, 2009.

  1. On my machines, many of them want to update KB951847 - .NET Framework 3.5
SP1 with updates to the dependent .NET Framework 2.0 and .NET Framework
    3.0 subcomponents.

It want to download a 248Meg file to the machine via Software Updates.

If I click though the links for KB951847 & KB959209, the files it wants you
to download for the machine are maybe 30 megs at most spread among three
    files.

Is there a way to get the one 248 Meg file that SU is using, and or another
way to patch the machines? For some reason the Download of that 248meg file
takes forever on a 6 Meg connection!

Also my ASU is set to download Updates. Is there a Limit to the Size of the
downloads that it will download? It has not downloaded in the background
    this Update on any machine.

I've put it off long enough and want to install it, but don't want to
    wait...

    Thanks,

  2. Hello Scott,

    Thanks for your post.

Before we go further, I would like to confirm about the current situations:

    1. What OS is the server? Are you using WSUS 3.0 on the server to download and deploy updates for all clients now?

    2. Does the issue only occurs to the KB951847 and KB959209? Can other updates be downloaded normally?

    3. Does the issue occurs to all of your clients with different OS?

If the updates have already been downloaded onto the WSUS server(I assuming you are using WSUS 3.0 on the server), but clients cannot get the
updates, I still suggest you have a try to download them to your clients. Otherwise you may need to manually redirect the clients to download them from
    the Windows Update website directly.

Meanwhile, here I found another post with similar scenario for your reference, please have a look:

  3. 1) This is an issue for All servers and clients, 2003, 2008, XP, Vista.
    We are not using WSUS

    2) This and other Updates download and update just fine, though it takes
bloody forever to download KB951847. We have a 6Meg Bi-directional
Connetion to the internet, so it should not take too long to get the 248 meg
    file.

    3) Yes, anyone who tries to install KB951847.

  4. Hi Scott,

    Thanks for your response.

If you have tried manually redirect the clients to download them from the Windows Update website directly, and issue only occurs to this particular update, I
think it is a pure Windows Update installation issue. Then please see if the following article from Microsoft Update Product Team Blog helps:

.NET 3.5 SP1 and Family Update Information
