Download Sumatra. Then right click a pdf and select open with Sumatra.

Tony....I tried this and believe I finally got this Adobe reader downloaded and installed. I searched for .PDF files and found one that I was able to open. Will try it more later to be sure. I think I made some mistake when I tried it before because I never got any response. We shall see. Thank you so much.

Plodr ; Now that I downloaded and installed Sumatra I must learn how and where to find PDF files so I can try it. It shows in my list of programs as Sumatra PDF.

If you have Adobe Reader working, you do not need Sumatra. They will be fighting for control to open pdf files.

Let's talk about this. Once you set a certain program to open a file, that's the program the computer uses to open a file when you double click on it. In this instance, once he installed Adobe Reader, it probably asked if he wanted Adobe Reader to be the program that opens pdf files normally. Then Reader becomes the 'default program' to open pdf files.

But what if he wanted to test to see how Sumatra, or some other program, opens a file but doesn't want to change the default program? That's pretty easy.

If you want to use another program to open a file, right-click on the file. This brings up a context menu. From there, click on the 'Open with' option. Select which program you want the open the file with just this one time. That's a good way to test to see how other programs handle your file. It doesn't change the 'default program'.

Note: In here you can allow the computer to open the file just this one time using a program that is not set as the default program. You can also easily change the default program in here by selecting the 'Choose default program...' option.

Thank You. I will work on this.
I did a search for .PDF files and a list showed up. Maybe I should put them in a folder named PDF FILES?

Please don't do that. Some of those pdf files are for specific programs - you don't want to move it out of the program file, you want to keep the directions with the program.
