Security Update for MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430)

Discussion in 'Windows Security' started by grumpygronlie, Oct 5, 2009.

  1. I have downloaded this and it says the download was successful. I also
    restarted my computer but it still keeps coming up. Why is this happening?

    After downloading, you need to install it. Were you implying that you
    did in your post? This was not terribly clear.

Even in my update history it shows that I installed it that many times and says it's successful. Then a few seconds later it pops up on my toolbar that new updates are ready for my computer and it's the same service pack. I have never had any problems before. Because 'Windows Update' is buggy.

    Often suggested when perpetual offerings of the same thing occurs
    at 'Windows Update' is to download the installer and run it
    separate from 'Windows Update'.
    Via:
    <http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3144B72B-B4F2-46DA-B4B6-C5D7485F2B42>

    Download just the user-files (723 kB)
    <http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/6/5/9657c01e-107f-409c-baac-7d249561629c/msxmlcab.exe>
    or the full thing (including the SDK you don't need to
    install) (5 MB):
    <http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/6/5/9657c01e-107f-409c-baac-7d249561629c/msxml.msi>

    Uninstall the previous 'msXML 4.0 SP2' entry via 'Add or Remove
    Programs' (show updates), restart, install one of the above.

    See if that works.

    Note also that there is a 'msXML 4.x SP3' just released
    (2009-09-29) that is a "complete replacement" of the above.

    See:
    <http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7F6C0CB4-7A5E-4790-A7CF-9E139E6819C0>

    Uninstall msXML 4.x SP2 and install this instead.
