    Hello,

I am have some problem's with some files and folders in my computer that tell me that I do no have permission to edit them. Now first I am the ONLY account on my computer with admin privileges and all that. I have also check the properties box under the security tab and in some cases I have full control and other i have only read and write permissions. in that box it list all of the accounts that that folder is connected to and there is 4 I recognize: System, User, Admin, and WMPnetworksync

How ever there are two other accounts that I don't recognize that have full control as well and when I try to delete them it says "access denied" these other accounts have been popping up in a few folders over my PC such as Itunes and my music which doesn't allow me to open itunes without selecting the run as admin option ( which is pretty annoying after a while) or let me save files into my music

Does any one know how to fix this problem
PS: I have my xbox synced with my PC ( don't know if that causes it or not) Screen shot 1.png Screen shot 2.png Screen shot 1.png

    Thanks
    Sami

Those other two accounts are there because the music was copied over from another computer, or you got it from a backup after a reinstall of your OS, it seems Windows assigns some sort of unique ID for each user created, since the permissions for that user were on another computer or OS install they will still be there after copying/backup of the music.
They aren't anything to worry about and you should be able to remove them, but I wouldn't yet.

As for your second screenshot, it looks like your trying to delete some album artwork in iTunes which I don't think is possible outside the program (can't be sure as I haven't used iTunes in a while), can you delete the artwork within iTunes?

    Thanks for your response.

I was trying to delete one of the accounts when the dialog box appeared. So is it possible that I cannot delete this account because information is being used in itunes through this account?

And also how can I change these permissions so I can save music files directly from the internet to the My music folder without getting an "you do not have permission" dialog box?

I can't link directly to a possible fix on these forums but did a search and found the following. I DO believe the site to be safe and I certainly know that the registry fix is safe.

This registry fix will add an item to your right click context menu called 'Take Ownership'. This will automate the permissions process. It may help you. After applying the registry fix just right click on the folder in question and select to Take Ownership.

Please let me know your results.

Just read through this thread and doesn't,

    Right click on folder/Properties/Security/Advanced/Owner/Edit

    do the same thing?

for those who don't want to mess with the registry.

Thanks Ken I never thought about that, the way I structure my file system means when you open a drive you never have more than 4/5 files and everything is in sub folders from the original 4 or 5 main folders, so when I re-install my machine I can use the include sub-folders option to take ownership, if it's a different machine then I've normally backed everything up in one folder on my machine so the same applies when I move it back.

The only issue that I've seen with this script is that it is only good for files/folders. If there were to be a case of an entire drive it can't do that. You have to at least be able to see the file structure. Right click on a drive icon and the option to 'Take Ownership' will not be there. Even with that restriction it is still an excellent utility.
