Ok, I spent about 5hrs and 30mins last night attempting to add a 250Gb SATA HDD with Windows 7 to my computer. The HDD that is inside the machine originally is a 25Gb IDE HDD running Windows XP. I want to add the SATA Drive to give myself a lot more memory. So I have plugged the SATA drive into all of its corresponding cables, SATA power cable, and data transfer to the Motherboard.

HHD lying on top of the case is the SATA drive, you can see the older drive in its slot underneath it.

When I rebooted the PC it did not appear as an HDD option, so I rebooted and went to find it in CMOS/BIOS setup. The drive was nowhere to be found. I've tried drivers, setup wizards from the company that makes the SATA drive, everything, and the only thing it recognizes it as is this:

I have also tried removing the IDE Drive and booting with just the SATA plugged in but it says something about error, please insert disk to boot from or something like that, it was a late night...
A friend has asked me this, and just in case anyone else has the question, no, my IDE drive does not have a "jumper" on it.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you guys can give me, hopefully it will be as simple as completely reformatting the new HDD and then plugging it in, who knows.

Hello Antomus and Welcome to CHF,

Apparently your sata HDD is only appearing as an unknown USB device.
What are the stats on your computer? Manufacturer, model etc.

Well, thats the thing, my computer was custom built by a friend of my dad's when I was younger. I can give you the system info but thats about it.

The motherboard is a Biostar P4M80-M7
The HDD I'm attempting to add is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10

It is, admittedly an older PC but it is the one I have that will use the graphics card I have so I'm stuck trying to update it. Don't mind the RAM btw, thats getting updated really soon.

Oh, and PS, the SATA HDD came from a Dell gaming rig I got from my old roommate when we parted ways. I would much rather use that PC but it's graphics card slot is far too small for the graphics card I have (he took the card from it before giving it to me). I know that anything from a Dell is pissy about what you put it in.

The computer is fairly old and it may not accept a SATA drive.
The CPU is a Pentium 4 so it has to be a minimum of 8 years old.
Are you using a USB adapter?

Have you tried replacing the unrecognized SATA drive for a
second IDE drive? You shouldn't have a problem getting the
    IDE drive recognized.
