Just to set the record straight! I always use the Safe to Remove feature. It's a habit and is second nature to me.

I think what is happening here is both views are correct. Upon setting Windows to disable write caching does set the drive for quick removal but it does not warn the user if the drive is being used at time of removal. This is evident by having the drive in use and using the safely remove device method. Windows will warn the user in this scenario that the drive is in use. My guess and this is only a guess. Someone had the device set for quick removal, but forgot it was being used and removed it. I.E. in use by virus scan or similar tools and not so much the user themselves. I think this could lead to disk corruption being noticed by others users as mentioned in the previous posts.

Somehow with some people, threads become personal and that just should not be.
Post to the best of your ability, that is all any of us can do and I sure hope no one is sitting there
counting who was right and who was wrong.

Once a post is solved, there is nothing wrong with moving off topic though still better to open new thread.
Staying on topic is respecting the user who asked the question who doesn't deserve having to listen to a whole bunch of things they don't care about before solving his or her issue.
That I have to agree with Gary and heaven knows I am often guilty of going off track myself, but who does it doesn't make it right.
