As antiquated as these drives are, we still have and use a Seagate DAT (9SP40)
on our IBM x226 Server running Windows Server 2003. It is now a secondary
backup. The only software we have to communicate with the drive is ntbackup. Is
there a utility that will allow me to address the drive (read the tape contents,
fast forward, rewind, and test the tape) in a user-friendly manner?

The only way I know to test a tape with ntbackup is to do a sample backup. It is
clear to me that some of the tapes are bad. If I had a utility that would allow
simpler access to the drive, I could proof out the tapes a lot easier.
