So, I have a Radeon HD 6870(my 5870 had the same issue with the screen blacking out), AMD Phenom II X6 1055 2.8 gHz OC'd, msi 890FXA-GD70 motherboard, and 8GB of 2133 OC'd ram. I've had this issue where(usually) while I'm playing a game or watching a video online, my screen will just go blank(my monitor is still on) randomly, then it will come back a few seconds later, and it will seem as though my monitor has restarted, but it has not at all. "HDMI" pops up in the upper right hand corner, which means it thinks I just switched to HDMI, or that it restarted, but neither make sense because I haven't.

Let me explain what I've done so far in the attempts to fix this issue.

    1) Replaced my old HD 5870 with the new HD 6870
    2) Replaced the motherboard(it broke while we were playing around with things)
    3) Added a water cooling system, as I thought my computer was overheating(now my computer has literally 5 fans and this water cooling system, and it runs at full capacity at like 40 degrees C, idle its around 30 degrees C
    4) Wiped my entire hard drive
    5) Removed a corrupted(I hadn't known it was until I tried to use files on it) hard drive
    6) Reinstalled windows again
    7) Reinstalled all of my drivers

What I'm thinking is, it's my power supply. But I don't feel like dropping another $100-150 on a power supply if it's not related to the issue I'm trying to remedy.

    Hi SolicitedPanda. Welcome to CHF.

I am thinking this could be power setting related.

If you mean in windows, I have it set to high performance. About to leave for work here in a second though, for about 3 hours, won't be able to respond.

If the monitor is staying on and the screen goes black randomly,I would be checking the power settings and making sure the monitor is not going into hibernation.

Try going to Control Panel power Options, click, choose to turn off display, then click Advanced power settings and look through the list of options.
Next time it goes black, tap the SpaceBar and see if the monitor comes back on.

Found it out, my HDMI port is faulty, Westinghouse monitors are known to have HDMI circuit issues.

Good one. Great you found the problem.

So frustrating when a problem persists and can't pin it down.

Thanks for letting us know so we can put closure to this issue. :)
