Hello, I have a problem with my computer and found a person here whom got help with a seemingly similar problem. You can see that thread here: http://computerhelpf...en-goes-blurry/

Whenever I play some sort of game, even flash browser games, my computer-screen will go red/greenish. On some occations it has also made some weird clicking sound while the screen goes blurry. After being blurry the screen tend to go very dark blue/blackish, but you can still see that it's not entirely black. Sometimes it will just go to blue-screen and/or shut off, and sometimes I have to do that manually. I am using a HP ProBook 6550b with windows 7 64bit. I initially tried updating my driver, but got this message:
    .

I don't have much experience with solving problems like these, so if anyone here had a clue I would be very gratefull.

    edit:

The computer in question is a Laptop.

Welcome to Computer Help Forums! :)

Where is this clicking sound coming from? Is it the monitor itself or the case? What sort of monitor is it? By that I mean is it an old CRT monitor (like a deep tv set with a picture tube) or a flat screen monitor?

    Thank you sir :)

I guess I forgot to mention in the post that this problem is regarding a laptop, (I only put it in the tags)

I haven't heard the sound in a few days, but the few times it has happened it has been exactly at the same time as the screen has gone red/green blurry. I am fairly confident the sound has been comming from the laptop-case, it has been quite loud and probably been comming from a loudspeaker somewhere.

    edit:
As I recall, its a very rapid and intense clicking sound that lasts for a second or two.

Lets see if the machine is just running a bit hot. Download and install the free version of speccy from here http://www.piriform....speccy/download

Install it and let it run for a while to allow the problem to start to manifest itself and then post the results here. You can do that as a screenshot or simply copy the results.

Also what is the make and model number of the laptop?

Is this what you're asking for? At least that what I listed in the original topic, if there is something else I can go through my document box and find it for you.

I've had an issue with the computer running hot before. That has been while playing fairly demanding video games and it has shut itself down on some occations. Not similar to this though. I feel it would be weird if this was an issue while only playing a simple browser flash game though(?)

    Currently downloading the program :)

The program is now downloaded. Does it save the info if the computer suddenly shuts down? If so I can force the problem to happen by trying out a flash game.

Hi BeeCeeBee had to go out for a short time.
    He will be back shortly.
No it doesn't save the information.
What I suggest is to play the game and take note of temps as they rise.
Put speccy in your task bar for quick reference.
Take note of the temps and post back.

edit: just posting as I play because I fear it will shut down soon.

edit: Hasn't shut down yet, I'll try a more demanding game.

edit: Another thing to note, it seems that when my pc shuts down, my roomate instantly loses his internet connection. Has happened on several occations.

That clicking sound is usually indicative of a failing hard drive. Before we go any further make sure that all your important data is backed up onto some form of external media such as an external hard drive. If it is a hard drive issue you may run into some severe problems unless you take care of that right now. If it turns out to be something different then you have lost nothing but time in doing this. It is, however, urgent to do if I am right.

I hope that means that you have done your backups. I still have a feeling that you are having hard drive problems but as long as you are backed up we can wait and see.

Yes, exactly. I will let you know if the computer crashes again, really weird that it suddenly stopped doing that today..

Thanks a lot for the help so far, couldn't ask for more.

Sigh, just shut down as I stopped paying attention to the numbers. It just went dark blue, then after a few seconds reg/green ish. The computer was still running in some fasion. I could hear some sounds from the game, and the desktop was flashing inbetween the black/dark blue and the red/green spikes. Let me know if there is anything else that would bring more light to the subject. The last text-file (I hope it was those you were after?) was from when I was playing league of legends.

The first summary pages that you sent were what we needed. It does not look as if heat is the issue, Are you still getting clicking sounds? There is the very real possibility that there is a fault with the screen itself which may require some hands on repair.

I guess I'll have to send my computer in for service.
Have not heard any more clicking sounds. Is it normal to have temperatures this high when the laptop is under stress?

I believe that the Maximum temperature for that CPU is over 100 degrees so operating under a load and reaching 76 does not seem to be your problem.

It does seem that the problem is related to the screen but I am not a hardware expert to the extent that I could pinpoint what it is about the screen that may be wrong. It may be that the flexible cable that connects the screen to the body of the laptop may be loose or broken or it could be a component of the screen itself. Perhaps if you wait a bit someone with more hardware knowledge will be able to give a more precise opinion.

When the problem occurs, can you change the symptoms by tapping the screen or flexing it a bit?

Hi, the screen going black or at least a very dark blue with a hint of what is actually on screen is indicating a problem with the backlight. This is a very small and thin fluorescent type lamp tube and is run from its own inverter circuit.
The clicking noise could be due to the inverter circuit faulty and the highish voltage it creates jumping across to something, hence the light goes out or very dim.

It is a quite difficult dismantling job to test and or replace both the inverter circuit or the lamp so it is best left to an experienced technician.
However if you feel up to it, I can post a link to a tutorial on how to replace them, however it is not specific to your laptop so it can only be a general guide.

    Nev.
