    Hi there!

I am having a problem with my monitor where it splits the screen down the middle with a thick black bar and puts the left side of the screen on the right, and vise versa (See below picture)

The same thing happens on three different monitors, so im pretty sure its not the monitor that is the problem, but something having to do with the computer. The rig is only one year old, so I don't know why it is having problems already. I have reinstalled my graphics/video drivers and that didn't help at all.

    My PC specs are:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
CPU : Intel Core i7 CPU 3.2 GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6900 Graphics Processor
    RAM: 12.0 GB

Any help given is thanked in advandce.

Hi  GASAWAS. Welcome to Computer Help Forums.
Being Chrismas there may be a delay in advice.
Looks like a resolution issue to me.
Go into the display control panel and you should be able to rectify.

    Thanks for replying DSTM.
I tried every resolution available and all it does is change how large the black bar is, the screen is still disoriented

Just a quick observation. From what I can see this has nothing to do with your computer and everything to do with the monitor. Have you tried playing with the settings on the monitor itself?

You say it's the same with 3 different monitors so to me it's most likely a display setting.

Have you tried reversing and stretching the split windows?

You can do this holding down the  Win Logo key and using the arrow Keys.

If you mouse to the edge of the screen more options will appear.

You should be able to stretch each window the full size in it's split window and get rid of the black borders.

Hi GASAWAS and welcome to the forums.  Just a quick question, have you tried doing a system restore??? as in restore your machine to a date before this problem started.  I would follow the advice given above first, then maybe try a system restore.

Sorry I missed the part where you said it happens on 3 different monitors. So that leads me to 2 questions. 1. Is it only your desktop as shown or every page? and 2: Is it possible that your graphics properties are set for more than one monitor?

    @ DSTM:

I tried what you said about readjusting the screen but that messed it up even more, and my screen started totally spazzing out flashing black and white. I rebooted the computer and it went back to the origional error.

    @ Ricardo:
Yes, I have tried system restore before, and it fixed it for a few minutes, then went back to glitching out again.

    @ BeeCeeBee:
1.This glitch affects everything, whether I enter a game or try to surf the internet, the screen stays messed up.
2:No, its not set for multiple monitors, and I have tried to set it to dual monitors to see if it fixes the problem...It doesn't

    Two thoughts...

    1)  It has been suggested that you check the screen resolution but it has not been suggested that you check the refresh rate for the monitor.  Especially if you are using an HDTV as a monitor it is important that the graphics card output match the display on the refresh rate.  An improper refresh rate can also cause issues on a monitor.  In your Control Panel look for Display and then then Change display settings .  Now click Advanced settings then the Monitor tab .  The navigation instructions are with the Control Panel set for Icon view , not category.

    2)  While I think that 1) may help there is a second thought.  Do you have Catalyst installed for your Radeon card?  If so I do believe that there is a settings screen within Catalyst that allows the positioning of the screen.  I don't know if it allows enough correction to fix your issue but worth looking at if 1) does not do it.  Sorry that I can't be specific on the adjustment setting in Catalyst but but I'm running Intel graphics on my laptop.

In addition to the advice given above, if not already done...try swapping a known to be good graphics card for the one in the computer.

Or....If you have on board graphics, try plugging your monitor into that VGA port (Do you see a second vga port...usually blue in colour)

    Further to the above advice.

I just fired up one computer with a raedon card.
It required Catalyst drivers for this card.
    Version 0.300.0938 Catalyst Install Manager
It has a catalyst control centre where you can change most settings under display options.
    My settings.
    Display - single
    Desktop area - 1024x768
    Colour - 32bit
    Refresh rate - 75Hz
The disc also installed .NET Framework 2

The OS seems may be using the generic windows driver as opposed to the hardware specific one.
    Check in Device Manager.

    Hi again!

I haven't posted in a while because I haven't been near a computer in a few days, but I have good news!
The problem has stopped! I got on my computer yesterday to see if I could fix it and the problem was gone. I dont know why or how it went away, but it went away.

    Well ****...
The problem started again just two nights ago. Surfed the net again and couldn't find a thing to help me and also tried all things suggested on this thread... nothing helped... can anybody think of anything else to help me?
By the way it has started telling me that the video/display driver has encountered an error so I know for a fact that it is my AMD 6900 that is the problem.

If you know your Graphics card is the problem as you say and you have the latest Drivers, seated properly and the Power supply is ok, then I see no alternative but to replace the Graphics card. :)
Get the card tested at a computer shop.

Ok, this is really weird, but good! Right before I was about to call my local computer store, I decided to uninstall some stuff (for a reason I forgot) and a minute or two after I cleared some space, the problem stopped. didnt have the problem again until my brother wanted me to download a huge 20GB game a few days later. I tried clearing some space again and it fixed it! It seems too strange for it to be just a coincidince, but i think it makes 0% sense for the amount of space on my computer to be tied in with the graphics card glitching out. Hopefully the prob is solved for good.

Hi, the question has to be asked, how big is your hard drive, and more importantly how much free space is on it, if partitioned how much of each partition is free?
other problems can occur when the drive is nearly full, and this being the first time I have heard of graphics going wrong because of it, it would be interesting to know for the future.

    Nev.

Well the screen problem is gone, but now my computer just gets the blue screen of death every once in a while, and it tells me its because of the video drivers timing out. Does anyone know of a way to stop this or do I have to get a new video driver? PLEASE tell me I don't because I really don't have the money to get another driver the quality of the one I have right now.

And to answer your question, Nev, my hard drive is a terabyte with just about 300GB left on it. It is not partitioned.
