My PC has been doing this again lately,

    .
I figure it's not the cable or the monitor since it is happening on anything I plug it into.

I am fairly certain that it is not the video card as this is the second video card I have used on this PC after I sent the first back for an RMA, in which it passed all stress tests. Thankfully XFX was kind enough to send me a new card anyway, but I am still getting this.

What other hardware could cause this? I want to say it's my HDD due to the fact that it has been making a sound consisting of two clicks and then something similar to the PC powering off every now and then all while continuing to run.

Also, I am not overclocking anything on here and drivers are all up to date!

    here are the specs:

Hi theduddler.Welcome to Computer Help Forums.

Please keep us informed what advice you are getting from other sites where you have posted so we are not offering the same advice.

    1. Is this happening during a game or all the time?
    2. Does this happen on bootup or after you have had the computer running for a time?
    3. Have you monitored the temp of this card?

I would roll back to a previous driver first and see if that makes a difference.

Right click on device/properties/click on driver tab/select roll back driver,if the option is greyed out, you dont have a previous driver, you would need to install it from manufacturers website,

I haven't gotten any advice from any other websites lol, lots of views...but no replies
It recently started happening in game, but mostly on the desktop.
Also, it happens very quickly after boot up...say within the first 15 minutes? It only happens as more programs open. When Nothing is open it doesn't do it, but say when I have a few firefox windows open or things that could slow down the computer it starts to do it.
And the temps on the video card have been a tad high, but from what I read on different websites, it's normal for them to reach the temps that it does.

Download Free Speccy here and post a Speccy screen shot of all temps after 15 mins when the monitor acts up.

What exactly are the temps that you are getting under a full load. Also what about CPU and other temps? From what you are showing it does appear to be a GPU issue.

Okay, I've tried to overload the computer as much as I could...I have games open, about 5 firefox windows with 15 tabs each open, adobe programs etc and I haven't gotten the glitch yet (funny how it doesn't show when you want it). I have more open then I usually do when it happens

    here is the screenshot: [IMG]

I also learned that even though I dropped the 3rd stick, I'm still running single channel...that could explain some of the speed issues I have been having

I would make sure you have the 6 cores activated and add more ram.
I have now 16 GIG of ddr3 ram installed on my 64bit Win 7
I would be looking at SSD hard drives also if money isn't an issue.

Just going back. Something is not adding up. Unless you have some super water cooled system those readings just don't make sense. The CPU and Motherboard temperatures are very low for a computer running at a full load. I can't comment on the GPU temperatures because I am not sure what it is measuring since you say that crossfire is enabled but speccy says that it is not.

Can you perhaps address my observations? I may just be missing something.

I have about 4 240MM and a couple of 120MM fans with a well ventilated case that sits off the ground with nothing enclosed around it.
How would I go about making sure I have 6 cores activated?
I'm also planning to upgrade the ram and I have been looking at a 120GB SSD drive to run windows 7 and games off of!

The quickest method to check is to simply open your Task Manager and see how many CPU readings it is giving you. If it shows 6 then they are all activated. Otherwise you will need to activate them in the bios. All this assumes that both the bios and the MOBO support a 6 core CPU. You mau have to update the bios.

    All 6 cores are showing!
I'm gonna try the ram and an SSD later this month and see how that goes!

thanks for all the help guys, you rock!

I am with BeeCeeBee here the low temperatures for CPU and MB against 60C for the graphics card isn't looking good. What just may be happening is cross draughting from the other cooling fans causing air round the GPU card and fan to stop circulating. This could be due to reverse air pressures from the other fans working against the fan on the GPU. a piece of card just placed temporarily between the GPU and surrounding area may prove that, but worth looking into just in case.

I think you guys might be right. I tried opening a couple of games at once to test it again and I'm getting the CPU and MB at 43C and the GPU is at 75C
Are there GPU specific coolers/fans or anything like that?

Hi, the higher powered GPU cards have their own fan, but lower powered may not.
However, if this is your GPU card=

    http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814150460

It does have a fan, are the vents clear of dust and is that fan working OK on both, I believe you have two cards?

    Further to Plastic Nev's post.
I see your problem as having the 2 cards (expansion slots) on Mobo too close together and causing air circulation problems.
After market GPU Fans I have seen are designed to cool 1 card. The ones I have seen fit in the next screw hole and slot and cannot cool the second card.
I suggest you buy 2 case fans (less than 10 bucks each) and fit them in the cover directly opposite the graphics cards.
Will require some holes to be drilled in the cover however thats pretty simple.
I have done this on one of my computers and it cooled the cards down at least 15 degrees.
    Run some tests first.

1 Take the GPU temp after a hard 15 mins gaming.
2 Then take the side cover off and run for another 15 mins and take temp
3 Then position a household fan directly on the cards and test again after a further 15 mins working the PC hard.

Post the results for each test and we will advise you further.

Sorry for the new Username, it wouldn't let me log into the other one for some reason.

I am only running one video card

Speccy shows you have 2 cards. That led to the confusion.
Something like this from Newegg would certainly help.

I'll check that out and get back to you!
I wonder why it shows two cards, odd

definitely going to pick up the Vantec fan tomorrow. I tried playing a simple game like Star Wars Battlefront and the GPU shot up to 67C and the CPU and MB stayed at 40C. The game immediately locked up with textures flying everywhere and other textures missing and those boxes in my screen shot all over the place

I got temperatures down to 40C by flashing the VBIOS and taking manual control of the GPU fan. It was only at 2% power, so I boosted it to 60% power and it brought the GPU down 20C. Unfortunately I'm still getting crashes with games. I get the driver stopped running but was fixed error, which lead me to uninstalling all the GPU drivers and re-downloading and installing them and still got the problem.

Sorry for the multiple posts, I couldn't see find the edit button on my previous posts
