I have an old pc I want to get rid of, the only thing I really want to move off of it is my pics, music, docs, and screenshots. My concern is the pc had malware and more then a few viruses. Ive been warned by the experts on CHF sometimes the things that are removed might never really be gone. Is it safe to save the files I want to a USB then put them on my new computer? Could anything bad from my old computer hitch a ride to my new computer?

Malware sure can hitch a ride. You can move data safely by scanning each folder first.
When you have the data on your Flash Drive, Go Start > My computer> Right click on your removable disc and choose scan. Your AV will be in the options. Click on the av and choose scan with.
Then your good to put the data on another Computer.
