Replacement for Gtalk sought

After several false alarms, Gtalk has finally been disabled. It was NOT perfect and lacked e.g. timestamps, but served my TEXT chat needs better than other chat programs. It could transfer small graphic files, and the chat window was adjustable to any desired size, and locatable at will. I thought Nimbuzz could replace it, but the similarity was in the control window only, NOT in the all-important chat window, which is NOT resizable. The Team Viewer chat window comes closest, but Team Viewer is much less reliable than GTalk was. Skype is spacious and shows very little of the previous conversation. So does anyone out there know of a free chat program that offers what Gtalk offered ?
