I have an old dell Dimension 4700 that I have installed I.E.7 on, Worked find until I removed a floppy drive that I no longer use. Now on restart, my computer is still looking for the drive, now I have to press the F1 key for it to load up. I went into my device manger and uninstalled the driver.... Still no luck! It's still looking for the floppy drive.
Is there something that I'm messing? Any help or Idea's will be helpfull.
    Thanks......... dtedder2

What you need to do is go to your device manager and disable the drive. (You said IE7 do you mean windows 7) Browser choice will not effect the boot sequence.

If you do not know how to get to the device manager give us the operating system and we will direct you. Generally if you right click on "My Computer" or "Computer" you will get a drop down menu. Select "Manage" and then Device manager. Locate your drive and if it is there disable it. It also may be that it involves your boot sequence in the bios. In that case you will need to make changes there. Let us know if the 1st method works before we get into that.

oops, Sorry about that... yes it's windows 7 and I have disabled the floppy driver and restarted my computer. It's still looking for the floppy drive. Had to press F1 key to restart.
I get a message thats telling me ....Floppy diskette seek Failure.
Initializing Intel Boot Agent Version 2.2
Press Ctrl+S to enter into the setup program. Strike the f1 key to Continue. F2 to run the setup utility. I'm lost in the setup!

It is as Barry says due to a boot order problem. You will need to change it as the BIOS will keep looking for it until you do so. I guess that before when the floppy drive was still inserted, it used to say "Failed to load" or something to that effect and move on. It will probably do the same if you reinsert the floppy. :)

Let us know if you need step-by-step instructions. Good Luck.

Man!... I have no Idea as to what to do in the BIOS. I guess the step-by-step instructions would be the best way to go.
    Thanks for all the help!

Click F2 when prompted and that will take you to your bios. It should tell you what bios you have. Just record what it is and exit. Remember that you will not be able to use your mouse so you will need the arrows to navigate. You will be shown how to exit the safest way to exit is to not save any changes even though you will not be making any.
Going into the bios the way I described is not dangerous just don't make any changes until you get directions.

Is that an ASUS bios. Did it give a name along with the version number.

I will give you a name usually right on the top. It will tell you the "publisher" of the Bios and the version. It is just that while there are similarities the settings appear differently and you are not familiar so will need to get some specific instructions.

    Hi dtedder

lol I know your posting a reply while I'm typing this but see if it's relevant to solving your problem
    1. Enter System Bios By Pressing F2 at Dell splash screen
    2. Use the arrow keys to highlight the Boot Sequence menu option and press <Enter> to access the menu.
    3. Press and down-arrow keys to move through the list of devices.
    4. Press the spacebar to enable or disable a device (enabled devices have a check mark).
    5. Press plus (+) or minus (-) to move a selected device up or down the list.
when you exit the bios if you are propted to save before exit select Y

The only thing I see above the Bios version is the system name = Dell system 4700
Under that is the Bios version = A10 (01/04/06 without a name.
I think that I'll be OK working in the Bios... I see the way to navigate. I looked through my dell paper work that came with my computer, but still could not find any info about the Bios.

Correct, Bios is what controls things till windows Boots, once windows is up and running it takes a back seat and follows the instructions from windows.

your problem is that the Diskette is probably the primary Boot Device, Which now really needs to be set to the Hdd that you have windows on.

the only time that would change would be if you were re-installing the OS, or the OS had developed a problem preventing it from Booting

I did what you guys said and restarted with the same results. So I went back in the bios and scrolled down to the diskette drive, I highlighted (diskette drive) (off) and saved then rebooted.
voila! It worked! Now I'm back up and running.... Many, Many, Thanks to you guys for your help! Wish you guys a very nice day!
All my friends are going to hear about this wonderfull site you have from me..... :D
    Thanks again.........dtedder2... :)

No problem Dtedder, glad to be of Help saves the wife moaning about me messing my PC up, and just can't understand that I mess with upgrade it and modify it just so I can Fix it :)

In fact when I built her a new one last month she said that she wanted one that works not one like mine that breaks every five minutes, after putting it together and installing the OS I haven't had to touch it :)

    How boring :snckr:
