Remove "Insert a smart card option"

My OS: "WIndows Vista Business"
Problem: I often lock my computer , and leave it .
Now when I return it should ask for my password, But sometimes on
pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del , it says me "Insert a smart card" and does not
give any other option of entering a password.

I do not have a smart card. So I reboot it and its all fine, But
rebooting is very annoying, as I might loose my work because I do not
find any way to login and save my work.

My computer is on a domain.
So what is the way to completely disable/ uninstal/ remove "smart card
option". What is the hardware listed as : under hardware , because if I
know the name , I can uninstall the driver and get rid of it....instaed
of loosing my work...everytime

There is a smartcard service that can be disabled in msconfig.

Better to disable it under Services.msc

msconfig is a diagnostic tool and not designed for permanent changes.
