I have had Registry Commander for a year and it has run out and I need to remove it from computers or buy it again. It has worked fine and really did speed up my husband's slow computer. However, I had problems when I used DiskMax, and now I hesitate to use Registry Commander or any thing like it.

What would the experts on this site recommend concerning this? Should I just remove it?

    Thanks for your input.

As a rule except in the most desperate circumstances we do not recommend the use of any registry cleaners or "optimizers" in the wrong hands they can do more harm than good. I would recommend that it be uninstalled. Preferably using Revo Uninstaller rather than the built in uninstaller alone.

Thanks, BeeCeeBee, that is what I thought you might recommend. I do have Revo Uninstaller. Will save myself some money and uninstall from all three computers.
Do you have any recommendations for cleaning the computer...CCleaner?? Zappit??

I doubt there is anybody here who will recommend that you keep it.

Registry cleaners often do more harm than good.

Get rid of it and if you have any problems in the future - you know where we are :)

    EDIT:

I have used CCleaner with good results for years.
If you leave it on default settings ( and do not use the Registry option ) there should be no problems.

    TFC is also very good

    I will second TFC.
It doesn't actually install to your system.
It just sits on the desktop and must be one of the easiest Temp file cleaners around.

Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
    • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista/Win7, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
    • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
    • Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
    • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.
That's all there is to it.

I also use TFC with excellent results. As for ANY registry cleaner, I never recommend one, hands down it's a no-no.

Thank you all for your input. I have removed Registry Commander and will get one of those cleaners you suggested.

Really you don't need anything more than TFC as the guys have suggested.
    My Opinion.
Todays Hard Drives are so large you can have thousands of non harmful registry entries without affecting performance.
I guess not everyone will agree with the above.

I think people put too much emphasis on cleaning the registry to speed up performance when it makes little difference.
You think your computer is running faster however most of it is imaginary.IMO.

Windows Disc Cleanup is all I use to get rid of Temp Files and junk off my computer, Pat

TBH I find that Windows 7 is best left alone, In the past I would agree that XP and Vista needed maintenance to keep them running smoothly, and in those days Disk space was precious, but I noticed that the amount of time's I was having to do basic maintenance on peoples computers to keep them running smooth With Windows 7 is in the regions of never, so as an experiment I stopped and can't say I have noticed any difference in performance.

Shocking, startling revelation!!! look through the Windows 7 Forum and find a post that resolved a problem by cleaning the registry or defragging a hard drive, and the temporary file system only seems to come into question with spyware, and viruses.
