Re: virtual server and ie8

    (oops sorry, posted to the wrong group in server.general, wish there is
    delete/recall option)


    anyway to run the virtual server administration website with ie8?
    it tends to prompt to download, save, what program to open with.
    I tried from the built-in ie on server 2003 also and it shome junk.
    I look at the services on the w2008 running the virtual server. IIS, web
    admin, www, virtual server and help are all running.

    PS: I can't run hypervisor on this PC probably because of intel dg31pr.
    mainboard. It has no setting to turn on the virtual machine assist. [​IMG]

    GS,

    I had this same problem when I first installed IE8. I was able to overcome
    this issue by enabling the compatiblity view setting.

    The admin console for Virtual Server was designed to run under IE6. The
    extra security in 7 &8 prevent it from running in the default config.

    You could try running vmrcplus instead.

    thanks but I no luck even after adding the site to compatibility list
    eg. becomes mydomain.local in the list
    also added localhost as well as mypc to that list
    I added also the above 3 to intranet
    still no luck:
    I sitll get prompted to download

    tried protect mode on as well off. no difference


    BTW I have done Virtual server repair once just to make sure it is installed

    what else can I do before uninstall and re-install?

    thanks even though VS is using IIIS7 on win2008?
    Also is not compatibility designed to run as IE6?

    nonetheless I will try installing the vmrc component and run that

    VmrcPlus saved my day even though it is not supported on w2008 ( not listed
    in system requirements)

    Hello GS,

    I run VS 2005 2 with IE8 and have no problems at all. The only step is to
    use compatibility view. It will also run under Windows 7/IE8 without any
    problem. But for the installation you have to change the local policies to
    allow the installation.

    Please let me know what meant"change the local policies to allow the
    installation"

    I can run vmrcplus to setup vm albeit not as productive as using the virtual
    admin website
    why, I can't add /migrate existing VM using add nor create, there is not an
    option

    .. Is not the installation complete and allowed already?
    or are we talking about some other aspect of running VS need to be adjusted
    in the local policy editor?
