Hello. I have a serious question that needs to be answered regarding memory upgrades and Windows 7.

I have the ASUS P5Q motherboard with the Core 2 Quad Professor (Q9550). I also have Windows 7 Professional, 2 licensed copies. Now, on one hard drive partition I have Windows 7 Professional 32-Bit. On the same system on another hard drive partition, I just installed Windows 7 64-Bit. Now, right now I have a total of 4 GB of the CorsairXMS2 memory installed [DIMM-RWIN2x4096-6400C5 -or- Corsair 4 GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2-6400) Dual Channel Memory, 240-Pin, Non-ECC, Unbuffered] on this system. No issues so far with 32-Bit & 64-Bit versions of Windows 7 with the 4 GB of RAM. Now I plan to buy another 4 GB of the same memory modules to have a total of 8 GB. I know the 8 GB is rated great for the Windows 7 64-Bit. Now, what about the 8GB for the Windows 7 32-Bit??? Any issues having that much memory (8 GB) for the Windows 7 32-Bit??? I mean I am not about to take out EACH TIME the extra 4 GB from the motherboard when I boot into Windows 7 32-Bit.

    Please reply.

    Thank you!

    Hi   montecarlo1987.

Good idea having 8GIGS of Ram.

Make sure, all the Ram Sticks, are identical in specifications.

Windows7 32Bit, will only use what memory, it needs, and will pose no issues, whatsoever.  :)

ASUS - are there any others worth buying?
    CPU:
Q6600 at 4.0Ghz per core (Watercooled)

    Samsung - all the way
    Graphics Card:
    XFX 260GTX rev 1
    Power Supply:
    Seasonic 600Watt
WIth that processor and motherboard you would be better running PC8500 RAM (1066)

With the issue of 32 and 64 bit OS's
a 32 Bit OS will only recognise 3.75GB of RAM anymore will NOT be utilised
a 64 Bit OS (Win 7) can recognise up to:-
    •Starter: 8GB
    •Home Basic: 8GB
    •Home Premium: 16GB
    •Professional: 192GB
    •Enterprise: 192GB
    •Ultimate: 192GB

Anything over 4GB is only recommended for video editing / any other highly intensive program

    Hope this helps

    Hi,

I don't know much about all this but I recently installed more memory on my 32 bit Windows 7. Had another issue and took the computer to Staples and was told that Windows 32 would use so little of that extra memory that I had installed that is was not worth it, so I took it out, put the original memory back, and returned the other to Crucial.

As Dalo indicated, anything over 3.75 in Windows 7 32 bit is useless. Basically that means 4 gig of Ram as some may be taken up by graphics.
