Well it was with a saddened heart I phoned my ISP this morning and told them that I was cancelling my contract with them, the really sad part about it is that it is not entirely there fault and there is little that they can do at the moment to rectify the problem. (I really am growing to detest BT)

The problem being that since I moved house I have only being getting a 1.6meg to 1.8meg connection speed, and only being 1.9Km from the exchange I found this a little hard to swallow,

So with a little digging I found that the exchange I was routed through the best I could hope for was 4.5meg (Sam knows you know), and with a little more digging I found that By changing to an ISP that provides ADSL2+ I should be able to get the full 24meg connection.

and so the search was changed and the answer came back as O2 or be, well O2 didn't have a chance fell out with there customer services long time ago, and after a phone call the decision was made,

so it is that I now look forward with great apprehension and excitement to doing business with be, until SKY spend some money on ADSL2+ that is.

so if you would like to grumble or praise your ISP then why not do it here, its a good a place as any, and will probably have the same affect as doing it else where. ;)

Here in OZ,you pay for every bit of bandwith, one uses.
No such thing, as signing an unlimited download Contract, like in most parts of the World.
I am on ADSL2, and promised UP TO 20 Meg, connection speed.
Best ever is 5meg, and that drops, in peak time.
Another gripe, I have is any bandwith paid for by me, doesn't roll over to the next month. They confiscate it.
That sucks.

Having come from Ireland where I paid for a crummy 2 meg broadband and was only able to get about 1.5 on a good day, I am satisfied with what I have in New Jersey.

I am part of a package with telephone and cable and was assured 12 to 15 megs as part of the package. I have constantly been getting over 16. I don't know what I would do with faster service so I guess I am pretty satisfied.

Question. Stupid one at that.

What's the site in the US to go to to test your ISP? I am still only a learner in some things. I take that back. I am a learner in all things. ;)

There are quite a few pc, I generally use Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test .

It is simple and based on a number of tests I tried, it seems to be reasonably accurate and indicated what server you are using and the distance from it.

I checked that one out Dougie and it is clearly OZ specific as it seems to connect to the nearest Australian server. Speedtest.net will pick appropriate server (or at least what it recognises) and you can vary the server if you want.

I know there are other good ones out there.

The great thing about speedtest.net is that at the bottom of the result box you get a two options

Copy forum link
copy direct link

if you click on the copy forum link, then open a post box in a forum and paste you get something like this

URL="http://www.speedtest.net"]IMG]http://computerhelpforums.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/www.speedtest.net_result_503742136.png[/IMG]

and when you click post you get this ;)

That is good but you failed to tell us how the two compared. :) I cant imagine anything simpler than speedtest but I do see how the one you mentioned may may be useful with an Australian ISP since it appears to make comparisons.

Accidently, used my full allocation, for the month 14 hrs ago.
This is what they do to you, here in OZ.
I am virtually paralysed, for another 8 hrs, till my speed is restored.
Took 20mins, to run the test.
How I wish I lived in other Countries, where there is no download limit.
I thought Dial up, used to be slow.

I used to complain when I got 1.5 and was paying for 2. Getting 1.04 and paying for 8 is criminal!

Won't catch me arguing that one, LOL
When it's good it's not too bad...up in the 900KBs, but this is very seldom. At least I know it is capable of it.

 WOW! The next time I feel like complaining about or to my ISP, I am going to think of how much

worse it could be..... :yikes: Why are internet fees so costly and why do they heavily restrict usage? :(
