UAC1.png Is this the pop up you are referring to?

Or to be correct: Is this the popup to which you refer.

(note) This is just an image off the internet the background colors may be slightly different.

OK I think I see what you are getting at, on a web page that you open in your browser, Internet explorer, firefox chrome etc, if it asks you to download something and install it be very wary, if its requesting something like flashplayer or java, or update something it is best to go and find the update or program yourself,

If its a program that's installed on your computer like Firefox, then the chances are its authentic, or your antivirus would be flashing popups warning you you have an infection

as for Dell support read this

    http://computerhelpforums.net/topic/35903-womans-nude-photos-exposed-by-tech-support/page__p__142368__hl__%2Bdell+%2Bsupport__fromsearch__1#entry142368

Not saying you have Nude photo's of yourself, but you may have other information like bank details etc that you want to keep personal :)

I think that is a great idea match , find the update yourself.
I will do that, but if mozilla is authentic, I will and did d/l it.
    thanks

ALSO READ about the lady that had this lowlife
    steal pictures.
    Now that is scary.
Wondering if it would be best to use a tech from the USA
    I will ask them.

Although I do have personal pictures of my family, etc
and a little private information that i wouldn't want anyone to
steal or as a matter of fact not even look into personal things
as they have no business there.

I have let many techs check much things for me
in the computer, but sometimes when I get anxious
or worry when they are too quiet,
    I disconnect them. :D

Kayrose that is the UAC window that was mentioned before and is a perfectly good part of windows. I would urge you to keep it and just put up with the tiny inconvenience.

As for your allowing all these strangers to have remote access to your computer, I have warned you a number of times on Circles Of Friends about that. Now you have been warned here again and not only by me.

I just don't seem to be getting through so I will leave it alone. But I think the fact that the "Perp" was from Mumbai is just a sidebar to the real story. Having an American steal your computer's contents will give very little comfort.

Remote access is for known trusted people, not organizations or companies. Not Dell, not the Geek Squad or anyone else. They are only as honest as the specific individual who is poking around in your computer.

Now it is up to you.

I am in 100% agreement with Barry. I take it a step further by immediately removing all
citrix software from my customer's computers. If it is absolutely necessary for someone
to have a Dell or HP "tech" (etc.) remotely connect to their computer it can easily be
downloaded again. As far as I'm concerned there is never a good reason for Dell to
    remotely connect to your computer.

It is not being paranoid to be extremely wary of who you allow remote access to your computer.

Today I did as match suggested and when mozilla told me to d/l adobe flash player,
I found it for my self and had a message from MCafee , not to download it.
    it could be unsafe.

also another message saying this type of file could harm your computer.

    thanks match.

their should be nothing wrong with Flashplayer, and a number of web sites need it to be installed so you can view the page properly, it could be that McAfee is being over cautious

But :) try this link http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/download/ I know that's a good one as I'm using it now,

    step by step
    of what happened to me.

    I hit download,
    I hit saved file
then I hit a pop up that says install,
    got another pop up,
    user account control

    then
do you want to allow this following program to make
    changes to this computer.

    program name , adobe systems
    terms , incorporated
    verified publisher, adobe systems incorporated
file origin, download from the internet.

    I hit yes
clicked, I have read and agree
    install.

    pop up
the adobe & flash player l0.3 installer,
    reads
the installer will automatically continue when these conflicting
    applications are closed.
    mozilla firefox.

    then
    quit
    i hitt quit.

    now what???????????

All it asked you to do is close Firefox because it would not install while it was running. It said it would continue when you close firefox. It gave you a list of conflicting programs but there was only one program on the list. Firefox. What you did is cancel the installation before it was completed.

You have to start from scratch and when you reach that point just close firefox and it will continue automatically.

Not quite :D right you downloaded it and as BeeCeeBee said you cancelled the installation, but the file should still be on your computer :D

it will be in My Documents downloads and is called

    install_flash_player

easiest thing to do is, highlight the file name above and right click the select copy, from the drop down menu,

close firefox (might want to read the rest first :snckr: )

click Windows menu Button, Bottom left of your screen (Start Button)

right click in the search box

    and select Paste

    right click on the file

    and select open

    click run

    check I agree

    click on install

and job should be done as a good un :D

Actually Kayrose Match is right BUT there is no "My Documents" in Windows 7. You should find an .exe file with the same name in downloads.

If that is confusing go to the search box in your start menu and type "Install Flash Player" without the "Quote" marks. It should show a file by that name called Install _flash_player.exe.

Click on it and let it install. You will get the UAC window we discussed just click Yes and allow the changes.

Make sure that Firefox is closed and if you get the same warning as before close any other programs on the list.

    You should be done.

If that is confusing----------Start from Scratch! :)

My Apologies. Of course you are right. The reason why I said what I did is based on memory lapse. My memory has failed me, I believed that I created a "My Documents" folder and put it on my desktop to be consistent with XP. Actually all I did was put it on the desktop.

I believe it is only vista that has no MY documents only Documents.

After that I created a few new folders and changed some of the default destinations etc. But I guess the actual "folder" was already there.
