Question , Please

Kayrose the ability to log in anonymously is always open to you. I seriously doubt that anyone other than staff even looks at the "Online Users" page.

We look to see who may be needing help and posting and to make certain that there are no spammers or other malicious beings hanging around.

probably doesn't amount to a hill of beans,

but what i was talking about was not on the online users pages,
its the place where we go to post and are looking at all the comments
and possibly make a comment
where you see us searching,
thus i like to be anonymous.
and i certainly know you dont care
if we do.

kayrose, when they are talking about the online users page, they are talking about the same thing you are. Remember when I used to call it the little spy room, haha, for lack of the proper word as I was fairly new and didn't understand much, well that is how an admin can watch someone to make sure they are not on a forum for the wrong reasons, so they see you on the place where you post a comment or read a comment, just like you are talking about. When you are anonymous, you can read, post and use the pm without other members watching you, but it will show up as soon as you post anyway. The only ones who can see what you are doing are the staff that have that privilege by the Admin/Owner. No one can see your IP address except the Admin and the people he allows to see it. (doesn't matter if you are anonymous or not). If you have ever visited a forum like the ones I had, or anywhere else you have belonged, they have your IP address and if you go there tomorrow just as a guest to read, they DO know it is you if they kept your IP addy on file.

If you use an anonymous proxy to visit a forum as a guest, they will see the proxy address instead of your IP address. Some say, they can see past that and know exactly who it is. I couldn't do that. I am not that experienced, nor was I interested. But don't worry about anything kayrose. What can anyone do with your IP addy anyway, not much, guaranteed otherwise I would have been nailed to the stake long ago and I am still here, and even breathing...... :lol: (not bad for a psychopath, eh?) :lol:

i do use anon a lot.

Basically we can use it to check you are where you say you are, as we can trace it back to your Internet service provider's server, which in your case is in Cornwall Canada,(that's weird as I'm in the UK and Cornwall is south west from Wolverhampton ) also it tells us who your ISP is, but to be honest we normally only pay attention when a member joins from some where like china and states they are the US, 99% of members that do that normally turn out to be spammers.

As a quick security lesson, Photo's posted on social sites like twitter or facebook are more dangerous, you see a relative standing in a room, a criminal sees a nice TV, Stereo, PC and a street name through the window :unsure: then underneath you let your friends know your going on vacation and wont be around for a while and a criminal thinks sorted, I have an address, and know your not there. ,

you may think that your family photo's are safe, if you set you privacy settings right, not sure about twitter and the others but face book is easy to get round ether way I'm always careful about what pictures I post or upload to the net

Be rest assured kayrose, that whatever information any member of staff can find on this forum, and also any other forum where I am also on staff, that information stays strictly private and is not normally given out for other members to see.

As has been pointed out, that information is very sparse anyway, at best we may find the town you live in, but not your actual address, and is only used for security, either for you the member, or to prevent spammers or other criminal attempts on the forum security.

If you start a message, and then take four hours to finish and post that message, er, why should that interest us? for that is all we see until you have actually posted it. We cannot see the message box while you are writing, we can only see the end product after it is posted.

Indeed as Match points out, personal photo's taken in or around your own home, then posted publicly for all to see is dangerous. Also giving out information such as an E Mail address is inviting spam into your in box at the very least.
Be careful by all means, but don't get paranoid, and the internet and forums can be a very enjoyable experience.

There is no need to feel paranoid about anything, Kayrose.

If you post anything that is considered risky, Admin and Staff will remove it quickly.

That's our job to look after our members.
