After the intial setup for the wireless router, do I need to keep my Mom's laptop hooked up to the router or can she unhook it and use it where she likes? Thanks.

If her laptop has wireless capability, and most newer ones do, then 'yes', she can disconnect the Ethernet wire from the router and use the laptop where she likes.

    Please note:
    1) There is a distance limitation. If she's stays in her home, assuming she doesn't live in a large house, she should be OK.

    2) When you set up the router, you need to note the SSID. The SSID is the name of the wireless network that the router will broadcast. When you search for wireless network with the laptop, there may be more than one network in the list, especially if you live in an apartment with neighbors close by. Click on the network with the associated SSID to connect.

    3) If you set up the wireless network with a password, you will need that to connect.

Thank you very much. I set up a pass to make sure no strangers/hackers will try to access it. I will write that down for her.
