Putting the Dial Internet connection on the Desktop?

Discussion in 'Microsoft Windows' started by letterman@invalid.com, Apr 9, 2009.

  1. I suppose I should direct these questions to a Windows2000 newsgroup,
but the one I tried, has no messages (microsoft.public.win2000.setup).
Maybe someone can recommend another one that has traffic.

Anyhow, I can not recall how to place the Internet Dialer on my
desktop. I did this in Win98 years ago. I'm sure its the same in
    Win2K, but how????

Right now I have to open IE and go to google or any other site. I
really only want to use the Internet in 2K for newsgroups and maybe
email. I dont intend to get the security upgrades (or any upgrades)
for Win2k, so I'll use Win98 for all other internet stuff.

I know this is simple to do, (make a shortcut for something), but
    what?

    Thanks

    LM

How about the ".general" one? (I counted around 27 win2000 newsgroups in
    there, give or take.

If you intend to access the Internet AT ALL with 2k, you had best update or
you will become just another victim. I would almost guarantee that your ISP
has dozens of lurkers waiting for an un-updated and un-protected system.

Well, in '98, it's IIRR My Computer, Dial-Up Networking, then drag the
relevant connectoid to the desktop, at which point it'll say "sorry,
can't move that there, did you want to make a shortcut instead", which
is what you wanted in the first place.

Can't you set Agent (I think you implied that's what you wanted it for)
    to connect when required?

(As another said, it's probably unwise to go online at all if you
    haven't security upgraded.)

Right click the "internet dialer", select create shortcut.
