Protective Plastic

Had my Dell Windows 7 laptop about 3 years and I just realized consciously (probably noticed it but not important at the time before now) that on keyboard there is a plastic tab at top R & L corners at Esc and Delete key and plastic covering for spaces between the keys. Is this supposed to be removed, or best left alone like I inadvertently did, or does it matter? Maybe a protective device until sale or maybe to keep dust out of keys spaces? Any opinions or recommendations? Leave it alone, remove, or what. May seem like a silly question but I am serious and curious.

 

Well I'm not sure what you are talking about but if it's been three years why change now? Is it that thin clear plastic sheet? If so you can remove it.

 

Maybe I am misunderstanding this but why protect 2 keys? I would remove it. If it is some kind of shield for the keyboard to keep dust out, then leave it as I would guess it is not in the way if it has been there for 3 years.

 

It is a thin clear plastic sheet with holes in it that surround ALL the keys (square holes and the keys stick up through) and I would guess it is a dust shield. I never paid attention to it before now and there is no reason to remove it , although it could be by lifting with the square tabs at the Esc and Delete keys. I suppose it cant really keep dust out for it isn't that tight on the keys but it could help. Now that I see it I don't wish to remove it. Other PCs I have seen do not have this. I usually leave protective plastic on all things like window on various things like digital kitchen scaled, electronic dials, etc, because it helps keep scratches off them.
