They are not going to upset millions of viewers.
There will be fixes in place in due course.
    See if I am wrong.

I am on cable so no problems for me. It will be interesting to see what happens when the services start up.

Not be long either way, 4G auctions are due to finish soon, been going for a couple of weeks now, Ofcom shouldn't be too long announcing who got what and then they will supposedly start switching on around mid to late summer.

People will complain no matter what so I just generally expect it all the time, but it's a necessary evolution in mobile broadband, especially in regards to spectrum as people get fibre connections they will expect the same speed on their mobile devices as well and 3G spectrum as it is can't handle this increased data usage.

So will we start to describe our distance from a city centre in G's :) lol No doubt 4G will start in the City's and spread the same 3G did. so I'm assuming that as I drive to some of my favourite summer day out destinations the signal on my phone will go 4G to 3G to 2G to NoSignal. :D

I think from what I remember some of the 4G frequencies (Might have been the 800MHz bands?) have requirements of 98% population coverage and a similar amount of coverage in land area by about 2017-2018, so there shouldn't be all that many black spots compared with 3G in 4-5 years time.

    Not true.
There is nothing stopping people from installing their own satellite dish and tuning it to Astra 28.5 East via a freesat box.

I dumped Sky a while back and, as the dish was my property, it was already pointing at Astra. :)

That's not always the case, I don't own my dish. as I found out when I moved to this property, and a Nice man came from sky to install a new dish, and I handed him the old dish I took down from my old property. and got told it's not mine and I should have left it on the wall of my old property. apparently it's in the small print of the contract.

I didn't read that - and presumably Sky didn't either - as I still have it after 2 years.

    Found this on e-Bay
    • If you get SKY TV installed (so a dish fitted with a SKY box or multiple boxes for SKY multi-room) you are contracted to subscribe to SKY for 12 months.
    • After the 12 months is up the equipment is yours and is out of warranty (so even if you still subscribe if something goes wrong you may have to pay for a new box or a repair)
    • After 12 months you are free to cancel your SKY subscription - you will still be able to view all the freeview and and most freesat available channels

If your Sky box packs up - they will not supply a new one. They want to charge you + fitting.

ahh I own my sky box, and repair or replacement are my responsibility, you may well own your sky dish, but the only way to tell for sure is in the small print, apparently it's one of those stupid things no one pays attention to, like having planning permission for a satellite dish on the front of a property :) I was told by sky I would need planning permission as the dish needed to be on the front of the property, when the engineer turned up he said no problem everyone else has got a dish so you should be OK, some 18 months later I received a letter, stating I had been granted planning permission for a dish on the front of the house.

The whole point as fas as I am concerned is that viewers should NOT have to go to any expense whatsoever if they have bought and paid for a free view box which functions as it should. If networks want to pander to peoples desire to be one up and have the latest in technology then they or those desiring the new service should pay. The purchase of an extra sky box should NOT fall to viewers who are already happy with what they have. As I said it won't bother me we use cable, and we can use free sat if we want as there is an old sky dish installed.

As I understand it the problems not so much about people having to pay to continue to watch freeview, more over the time it will take to get through to the call centre. But then what rights do you really have when your not actually paying for anything. surly it's not up to the customer, but the provider (FreeView) to actually get off their posterior and get it resolved so they don't loose customers and revenues?

NO ONE should be inconvenienced at all. This should have been sorted before these services are introduced. Why should some peoples constant desire to be one up cause problems for others, many who may not be well off or very savvy. No one should need to call call centres to continue getting the service that they have already paid for. How many of these call centres will be manned by Asians with accents that many cannot understand. This is NOT meant as a racial slur, it is just a fact. I never speak to Asia when I contact Virgin. I always press the telephone option to state that I am thinking of leaving. This line is always answered from the UK.

I don't think they are making the investment so Joey on the street can have a faster internet connection on his phone, Same as I don't think the planned HS2 line is for Joey to pop down to London for a shopping trip, In fact I don't think anything that happens in this country is for Joey on the street to benefit from, it's all driven by and for Big Corporations to make more profit to share amongst their share holders.

I appreciate what you are saying, but I still maintain that those who benefit should pay for it, businesses and private users. The HS2 line will come out of general taxation. This 4G business will directly impact many people who do NOT get enough income to pay tax, and will be a direct charge out of their pockets. Another case of hitting the very poor to pay for rich mens toys.
