Have been following Steven's post about his Lacie going on the fritz closely as I'm having something similar with mine.

When it's plugged in, the very tiny blue light comes on but nothing happens ... the C:  doesn't show it as even existing.

It worked before and has been safely tucked away in a drawer ... is there perhaps a 'life expectancy' for these thing?

Any solution would be greatly appreciated - thanks once again!

Hi Mara, just curious, when you plug the thumb into the USB port, does it make that bah bump sound????  I have never heard of them having a so called life expectancy or a limited life.  Have you tried it in another port????  I am thinking that maybe you have lost a driver, hence the thing won't register on your C drive. I have several thumbs with different sized hard space and from time to time I have to wipe them clean and or re-format them.  You can't presently access yours so you can't do a re-format.  Please let us know if it works in another USB port.

    Cheers: Rich

Sorry, I just searched the web about your lacie and it is a portable hard drive and not a thumb as I said above.  Regardless, it should show up on your C drive once you plug it in.  I think for some reason you lost the driver for it. It should have come with a software disk, maybe you should try loading that again, re-boot then hook it up. Please make sure that it is unplugged while you load the software.

I am guessing that the issue is either with the USB port or the drive itself. Assuming that you are using the Lacie as a storage drive, you should not need to install any drivers to get it recognized by your computer.

    Thanks Richardo and our BeeCeeBee!

I've tried other things in the ports and they all work fine ... the thing doesn't make any noise when plugged in, just sits there with it's little blue light glowing and doing nothing -  so guess this pesky orange thing is now a lost cause - drat.

(Sorry about confusion re exterior storage versus thumb-drive ... it's only a little very flat orange thingie about 2" x 3" that I've had for ages and all this time just assumed it was a flat thumb-drive - grin!).
