Nev went under the knife a few hours ago to remove a tumor in his bladder.
This has been causing bleeding from the bladder.
Quite an ordeal to go through as Nev hasn't any surviving Family for support.
Hope the tests prove the tumor is benign as everyone does.
Wishing you a speedie recovery, mate and stay positive.
Thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

Now back home, though feeling a lot rough from it all. Thanks to every one especially Dougie for posting about it, and for the concern and good wishes, I will fill in details later when a bit more up to speed, still very tired here.

Things are moving on now. Not very well I might add, I am stuck in some sort of odd loop as my bladder won't fill, so constantly running to the loo with not much to show for it when I get there.
I went to my own doctor who like me thought it may be an infection responsible, so I am now on day three of antibiotics and hoping they sort that problem.
I now today received a letter from the specialist and have an appointment for next Thursday, that is when I will learn what is next. Although the majority of the tumour was removed there is a small bit remaining they couldn't remove as it is embedded in the bladder wall. So the wait was for the lab report on what they removed so as to know what treatment to follow for the remaining bit. Hopefully chemotherapy injected into the site of it will be enough.

    Nev.

well it is time for another update, a bit lax of me not to have done so earlier.
I did go and see the consultant and learned some not too good news, the tumour is cancer, there is still some of it inside and is the reason for the constant need of toilets every half hour.

The next course of action after a few more visits is that I will be starting a course of chemo therapy on the 20th of this month, that is to hopefully shrink and at least hold back this cancer from spreading.
There is some concern about a nearby lymph gland as it is showing as enlarged in the CT scan I went through before the last operation. If the chemo also reduces that it will be a good thing, if it doesn't then the enlarged lymph gland may be a different problem.

As a side issue, the CT scan also showed something small on or near one lung, the general consensus is that it isn't anything to worry about, however a further chest x ray has been done and I see a chest specialist on Monday. The doctors want to be sure all bases are covered while under treatment for the main problems.

Since the operation I have also had ultra sound scans of both bladder and kidneys, that is to track what stage things are at present, in order to help decide on further treatment as well as the chemo therapy.

I have been advised that at this stage there is every possibility that my bladder will have to be removed in order to be completely sure the cancer is also removed with it. The affected lymph gland will also be removed as well. The chemo therapy is mainly to keep things under control rather than being looked at as a full cure.

Still early days and no doubt many more tests and treatments to undergo, however there is confidence that I will eventually be able to live a good deal longer yet. I may have to put up with a stoma and a bag, however I have heard of others living a good and long life after such treatment, including the father of an acquaintance who is in his eighties and has had a bag for the last twenty odd years.

If having the bag removes the need to rush off every half hour, it will actually be a major improvement on life as it is now.
The bag I am told has a tap at the bottom so it can be emptied at maybe three or four hour intervals, which is obviously going to give me more freedom of movement.
So instead of a rush to a toilet, I can just go for a walk round the garden and water the flowers.

So, to cap this off on a slightly serious warning to everyone who gets chance to read this, if any problems with your water works, be it needing to go more and more often during the day, or even night time, or seeing the red hydraulic fluid when you do go, get to your doctor right away. Do not think like I did, oh it will right itself, no it will not. Do not leave it till you finish up like me, if I had gone much earlier, things would have been much easily treated.

    Nev.

Thanks Nev. Wish the news was better. Hopefully, the chemo will do the trick.

Good luck to you. Any cancer is scarey stuff. Putting off going to doctor when things don't seem right is not a good idea.
