Thanks folks, it has been a case of so far so good. In reality it all started at a few minutes after midnight last night in the local refreshment house when a friend bought me one of my favourite whiskey's, and it has just gone on from there really.

I treated myself to a new camera for a present to myself, as the one I had up till last weekend got bumped and cracked the viewing screen, making it useless.

So took the new one out and got some nice pictures and some very good quality HD video this afternoon.
Will post pictures of railway engine soon.

    Nev.

Here is one of the engines that were running on the East Lancashire railway this afternoon.
The photo is a still pulled out of a video which was taken as the train came into the station.

For the more technical minded, not that there is much technical about it, the camera is a Panasonic Lumix model DMC-TZ18.

It is capable of video in HD using the Apple Quicktime MOV format. A bit of a nuisance as my computers are Windows and not Mac, so to get the best out of viewing does mean downloading Quicktime, and if wanting to use Quicktime to edit you have to pay for the Pro version.

I don't need to though as I did actually spend some cash on Corel Video Studio 2010 some time since, which handles MOV files very well indeed.

The photo you see is a still clip taken out of a video of the train just arriving at the station using the Corel Video editor.

In order to attach some of the other video of the train leaving, unfortunately meant losing quite a lot by converting down to WMV format, but apart from a hurried shake at the start, you still get some idea of the abilities of the video it can take, sound isn't too bad for actual reproduction of what I was hearing too.

Well BeeCeeBee, I hope you don't travel by train too often, the Hogwarts Express departs from platform 9 [sup]3[/sup]/[sub]4[/sub] as that is platform 2, I think we can say it's not going to Hogwarts.

Ken it was my Wife's Idea :D Ahh True Love :)

    I beg to differ !

If you take a close look - this is the passenger count - not the platform number :)

Thanks to all for comments, and giving me a laugh too.
Got to laugh at the passenger numbers Ken, as the guy in front of the camera is actually the station master, not a passenger. (yep a bit scruffy for an official person!!)
The photo was taken as the train was slowing to a stop, so passengers hadn't got off, and the few waiting were out of sight.
As for Hogwarts, Rawtenstall being the destination of the train, is the next best thing
