  1. I have a windows 2003 R2 Standard DC server

I want to upgrade the hardware to a new server box

I also have a second 2003 R2 Standard DC server

What is the best practice for replaceing the hardware for a 2003 DC server.

I the old days I had to demote a DC is that still the same

I would like to be able to keep the same server name.

I know it is a major undertaking but the current server has limited memory
    and it is maxed out.

Any ideas or thoughts would be great

    thanks

    Tom

  2. Hello Thomas,

If you like to keep the name, demote the one to remove, with 2DCs in total
    no problem.

Make sure the second DC is DNS server(use AD integrated zones) and all domain
machines use it on the NIC and make it Global catalog server.

Also move the 5 FSMO roles to it before and check with the support tools
dcdiag /v, netdiag /v and repadmin /showrepl for errors and solve them before.

    Best regards
