Pictures Disappeared

    why would a bunch of my pictured disappear from my pictures folder.
    I am attaching a screen shot of a folder that had about 100 pictures (tags from Paint Shop Pro). I have always kept them in my picture folder until I upload to a storage and all of a sudden they are not showing up. is there a setting that may have changed on me since I did a reset to factory settings? I can see only tag in there with all the folders and I just put saved it to that folder a while ago. all other tags have vanished.

    Before a factory reset you would have needed to backup all your files and data.
    If you can't find them, you will need a paid data recovery program, and even then there is no guarantee all can be retrieved.

    yes I did save them all
    I did a backup of everything that was important to me. they were all there until the other day. all of sudden they were gone. I am wondering if I clicked on something I shouldn't have and they are not showing now.

    Where is the backup folder now?
    You backed up everything to what?

    I backed it all up to external drive. Put everything back and deleted the file, but this was about 2 months ago. this disappearing pix or tags as I call them just started about a wk ago. at first they showed then once in awhile they won't show, then they will. is speratic.

    Here is a way to find the folders if you know the names of the missing folders.
    If the pictures folders are still on your computer, of course.
    Download this free program and when it loads enter the name of the folder you are looking for.
    It will tell you where the folder is located.
    If this program can't find the folders, one at a time then they are gone.
    If your OS is 64bit I would download the first one, the installer.

    I guess I will have to just forget about them. I can't remember all the names of the tags. the folder is still there with sub folders in it, but the tags that were in the original folder are gone. I will try to clear this a little more for you.

    I had a folder named it Blam and inside the Blam folder I had TGIF folder, Christmas folder, Checking In folder and few others. In the main folder Blam I had tags in there and those are the ones that disappeared.

    Were these missing pictures on your system before you ran the reinstall of the Operating System?
    If so, they may actually have been backed up by the reinstall.
    From Win7 onwards, normally when you run a reinstall the process creates a Windows.old folder.
    The Windows.old folder actually contains all the files and data from your previous Windows installation.
    If one got created it will be stored on the main drive... normally the C drive.

    Click on the Windows.old folder, then click on Users then your profile name .... your pictures etc should be there.

    You have nothing to lose, so it's worth a look.

    Can only hope just-me hasn't run Disk Cleanup because that wipes the Windows Old Files.
    It happened to me.
